Hi all

Anyone know where the adjuster for the handbrake cable is on the new Astra?

It's a 1.8i 16v with ABS and rear disc brakes. The rear brakes are
different to the Cavalier, in that the Astra has single piston sliding
calipers, with the handbrake operating directly on the caliper. The
handbrake cable runs forward and hides itself above the massive exhaust heat
shield.

Thanx

The adjuster is located in the passenger compartment, on the handbrake
lever. Remove the handbrake lever gaiter and you will see it.

I don't know anything about the new Astra, but with the handbrakes built
into the calipers you need to be VERY CAREFUL, or you can knacker the
rear brakes. They rely on there being freeplay in the handbrake cables
to allow them to adjust and operate properly.

I would suggest consulting a manual before attempting to adjust the
cable in any way. Most modern handbrakes need at least 5-6 clicks to
work correctly, with anything up to 10-11 being acceptable.

There isn't a manual available for the new Astra, (except for the genuine
Vauxhall).

The bloody thing comes up 13 clicks - I have to open the sunroof every time

Mmm, it is most likely more deeply rooted than simple adjustment. I
would get the calipers checked first.

Thanks to all who replied.

Handbrake now comes up just 10 clicks :)
