You can start and drive the van with a non-transponder key. The PATS LED
flashes for a while then goes out. The other symptom of the bodge is that
you can pull the starter relay from the fusebox and still start the engine.
The steering column transceiver is there, with what looks like the guts of a
transponder key taped to it, but the LED still flashes and you can still
start and run the engine if you remove the taped on bit. The PATS module on
the bulkhead is still there. I have no Red key.
Any ideas?
If you can help but don't want to broadcast the info please email me direct.
Thanks for taking the trouble......

I don't know what to suggest here really. There is not much you can do.
The wires to the PATS module are all the same colour (black), and the
PATS manuals have to be securely locked in a safe at the dealership (or
at least they should be). While I was working on these (not Transits,
but the systems are the same) we had to phone Fords for any assistance
with these - and we had to prove who we were too.

At the end of the day I suspect I will have to consult a Ford dealer,
because I need to get keys & get 'em programmed anyway. Just trying to
minimise the bill.
