I've just picked up a cheapo 2nd hand Kar-Rite roof box. Its huge ( 600+
ltrs) but its white. I think its originated from the top of a motorhome or
something.

All the modern boxes are black / grey / silver.

Is there any known types of plastic / rubber type paints available that can
be used without hours of prep work like on a car bumper skirt ?

If I can make it more asthetically pleasing, I might be able to persuade the
mother-in-law to climb in it from when we go away............

AFAIK the painting process is very much the same as painting
bodywork, except that with plastic a plasticiser is used so the
paint doesn't crack when the part flexes.

It'd be quicker and cheaper to anaesthetise her and put her in than trying
to tempt her in with pleasing colours.

At least by standing on the box on he could reach a little higher up
the wall.

jar...@fsmail.net says...

Use a plastic primer (Hycote do one) and colour-code it to the car with
normal acrylic aerosol car paint. :)
I wouldn't worry about the plastic flexing and the paint cracking
because roof boxes are rigid while paint doesn't crack when you dent or
flex panels like a roof or wing.
