Hi

I have a 2008 Mk2.5 Focus with Heated Front Screen.

Sometime between last winter and this the passenger side has stopped
working :-(

There are many posts about this fault, usually the drivers side stopping
working though. I have checked wiring and there is power to the
conntector which connects to the wire to the film connector in the
beneath the wiper mech.

The Copper foil thing looks in good condition and the wiring/foil is not
fouled by the wiper mech (as is often reported).

Of course there could be a break in the element and the screen needs
replacing, however before deciding on this course of action i just have
one further question / check...

Where is the earth connection for the screen?

The screen does have a largish chip, but that has survived a few winters
and I am not too bothered about having the screen replaced if I can
avoid it. I not bothering having it filled either as there is an
abraision and the usual sandpapering effect of a screen near to 100k. If
I was going to pay the excess for a filling, I'd pay the excess for
replacement.

Ideas welcome... Heated Front is my favourite "toy!" - Yes im easily
pleased!

I would say that using the heated windscreen might cause the chip to
become a crack; that certainly happened to my Focus but OTOH you said
it has survived a couple of winters already, so if it was going to get
worse, wouldn't that have happened already? Can't help with he
original problem though, sorry, I was lucky that mine just worked.

Half of my one died. The fault was the power connector near the screen,
cutting it off and splicing in a short bit of heavy wire fixed it.

Hi Mr C

Thanks for your thoughts...

Mine has about 4" of foil connector which seems to be fixed into a black
plastic terminal with another 4" length of wire then a single pole plug
connectors...

Did you cut of at the foil or between the plug and foil connector?

I dont seem to be able to pull the foil out of the connector.

I did not need to touch the connection at the screen itself. I cut the
black connector off at the wire each side of the connector for the screen, I
initially tested at the connector and found power on the vehicle side, but
not the screen side, the connector had corroded inside and would not come
apart, so removal was the only option, I cut and bared the wires, there was
not enough free play to just join the ends, so I used heavy wire and crimp
up butt connectors to rejoin. on mine it was the drivers side.

Cheers...

Mine lokes all shiney and bright so im going to have a look for the
earth, which i believe is at the top of the screen and see what is doing
there before i get any more destructive with the plugs.

Plan is to see what resistance/v drop i get across the screen for right
to left.

Maybe in the three years since he posted he's sorted the problem?
