Hi,

The air-bag has failed on a friend's Vauxhall Corsa. (1.4 on an N
plate).

The local Vauxhall dealer has quoted a price of £400 (400 GBP) to
replace it.

Is this considered a reasonable price for a job like this?

Can the work be carried out by a garage other than a Main Agent?

If so can anyone recommend a garage in the Cheshire area that could do
this sort of job?

Any ideas or info greatly appreciated.

This I assume includes the new air bag, if so the price is proberly OK for a
main dealer, air bags are not cheap.

Yes if someone hold the required qualifications, if it just a simple air bag
change (not a fault with the electronics etc.) then a car body shop may be
able to help, just a thought.

That sounds cheap, as the normal cost of the replacement airbag is £414
+VAT, before any labour has been added on. I remeber the price, as I priced
up an airbag the other day at work for a Corsa.

I wouldnt recommend that anybody apart from a main dealer does any work on
an airbag system, as the consequences of anything going wrong is quite
nasty. Officially, it is the person working on the airbag system who is
personally liable should the system fail to operate correctly in the event
of an accident.....

There are other, independent, people around who are trained to deal with air
bags & pre-tensioning seat belts. I would think that most, if not all by
know, VBRA approved crash repair workshops have at least one person trained
by Thatchems(sp?) (who are the research people set up by the insurance
Co.s.) to do this work.
