I believe the motorcycle/car split occurred at the time the car part of
Triumph was incorporated into Standard. (Whenever that was, mid 1950s
perhaps?)

I've wondered that myself - being a Triumph owner myself. As far as I have
been able to make out, they were never part of the same company..... but
hopefully someone will be along shortly who know for sure!!

They were split into seperate companies in 1936, before that they were one
and the same.
