I noticed this time that as a drove it in 4x4 on slightly gravelly
tarmac in a figure of 8 pattern the drive was juddering and on the left
hand turn the nearside wheels were spinning as if they were trying to
go the same distance as the offside.
The same occured on the right hand turn with the offside wheels.
Also when i jacked up the front wheel it was under load , as soon as
it slightly cleared the road it revolved about a quarter turn with
force as if to free itself.
Its as if i've got diff lock on, (i haven't got lockers).
Any Ideas ? (I'm starting to think i've got a seized front Diff,
I've Broken a Landy one before , can they seize ?).
Thanks
Lyndon Wallis

I think Nigel may be onto something in reference to drivetrain windup.
Try unlocking the hubs first, then atempt to disengage the transfer
case after reversing a foot or so.
Siezed diff would probably let you know it as the front wheels would
also be siezed when in 4x4 with the hubs locked. I've not heard of a
siezed diff, but have seen loose broken gear teeth tear-up the spider
gears & crown gear badly.

I've only ever used 4x4 in fields before, it was when we had that
freeze the other morning and the roads were real slippery that i tried
it on the road and the juddering was experienced .
I tried it on some mud earlier and it was really ripping it up at
slow speed on the inside of the turn as if wind up was experienced.
Still unable to drop from 4x4 to 2x4 on the mud.
Put it on the tarmac in 2x2 all ok , put it into 4x4 moved away in a
circle and wind up started immediately.
Would wind up occur immediately ??
If one of the hubs wasn't engaging or disengaging anybody got any
ideas what the effects would be ?
Thanks for your thoughts Lyndon
