Has anyone else come across this?

http://www.calor.co.uk/customer-services/faqs/general-cylinder-queries/cylinder-exchange-policy/

On what planet does any of this make sense? Despite the rules, I've never
had any trouble swapping cylinders between groups but the logic of the
rules eludes me.

Well glad to hear you have not had any problems changing gas type or size,
used to be that way for me years ago, but a different story for me in recent
years as I have always received a refusal.
They have used the excuse Calor will only do like for like to us and thus
our stocks get all wrong. They obviously do not know the rules you quote
but I never got them to budge.
Only way I got what I wanted was to get one given from someone who no longer
wanted it via advert. in newsagents window or similar etc.
I tried FreeCycle but they objected saying it is illegal to give them away,
stealing to receive and disposing of stolen goods if giving away.
Regards
David.

I have looked at the link and it looks as Calor have changed the rules
since last year when I last checked. I needed to change a cylinder for a
different type and the explanation of the rule were more convoluted to
follow but did allow more options for different cylinder types/size. I
was successful at that time. You did have to go to a Calor depot to be
able to exchange dissimilar cylinders as stockists/agents such a caravan
club sites could only exchange like for like.

With hindsight, I think I was lucky to swap a 13kg patio gas cylinder for a
6kg propane one earlier this year. Looks like the stockist hadn't heard of
the changes. I've just tried a few outlets to swap another patio gas
cylinder with no success. :-(

I'll see what our local Calor depot has to say tomorrow.

I'm wondering if they are preparing to phase out group b?

Doubt it, it's a very popular size for motorhomes. No, I just think the
b*stards are making loyal customers pay for increasing their stock of "b"
sized cylinders.

I've been around all my local stockists and they're all wise to this rule
change alas so I went to my local Calor depot who were equally unhelpful.
I've coughed up for another fecking cylinder deposit but it's really
annoying. The excuse that it was complicating things for restocking
delivery drivers just has to be a load of bull as there's a huge variety of
size and shape cylinders in the "a" group that you can still swap.

How long before they stop you exchanging between propane and butane I
wonder? I feel a strongly worded letter to Calor HQ coming on....

We usually stay with the propane. We dont use a vast amount and that way we
dont get caught out when it freezes outside.

I think they'll probably think of that next, anything to wring another
couple of £ out of us.

Good luck with that. IME the only use for strongly worded letters is typing
practice.

They live in a world where they are the monopoly supplier. When their
little empire was threatened by the lightweight BP cylinder they rushed
out the Calor Light and threatened to withdraw supply form anyone who
stocked the BP cylinder. During that period they were willing to
exchange anything for a Calor Light. Now they think the threat has
receded they are back to their monopolistic tricks. It's all about
managing their stocks of cylinders and in effect getting us the
customers to pay for restocking for them,

I did take this up with the Office of Fair Trading and get nowhere. They
didn't understand the difference between the touring van market and the
statics. Also raised it with the CC Club and likewise. However I was
pleased to find recently that one local dealer now stocks both, having
he said told the Calor rep to like it or lump it and as they are the
biggest dealer in the area Calor have backed off.
So when my 3kg bottle runs out I will not be paying Calor for a Calor
Light I will buy another BP bottle. They are much easier to disconnect
and to turn on and off. I carry 2 with an automatic change over

The cylinder is the property of Calor. You actually rent it from them.
This facilitates the exchange of empty for full. If you keep your rental
agreement it will define the refund yo get if you return the cylinder on
a diminishing scale coming to zero after year 5 IIRC, but the cylinder
still belongs to Calor.

Nope, but your cylinder is still worth nothing (in terms of refund) after 5
years.

Simple solution: get FloGas. Unless you are planning VERY long
overseas trips and/or can't carry two bottles you won't have a
problem - and they're significantly cheaper. My local dealer
didn't even charge me a deposit!

I order from Flogas themselves and they delivery it free, Calor charge for
delivery, so double saving.

Do you have to change your gas connector/regulator if you previously used
Calor? Or are they straight replacements?

Just same as Calor for same gas or use.

Ok Q as I have 2 blue propane size 7kg with the new to us caravan we got
a few weeks ago.
And as they show in group B jest up from the Red Color lite that we
have used in another van we had, can I change from blue 7kg to 6kg
lite and not pay the extra

Not quite sure what you are asking. Blue cylinders are Butane,
not Propane: Propane are red.

It looks as though you can change from any size to any other size
EXCEPT 6Kg which you can only change amongst themselves, so I
would guess you can change from Butane to Propane for the price
of a fill. You could of course ring your local Calor shop and ask
them?

Well, apart from the fact that you're changing from butane to propane, yes
you can. They're both in group "B" and are swappable.
