I have got an Avondale Dart 556-6 and I am trying to run the plugs off the
leisure battery, but they do not work, Is this normal? The only time they
work is if I am on mains electric. Can someone advise on this?

Thanks

Carl

The Lord alerted my mind to the presence of this EVIL article by Carl
Barratt, and I thusly replied:

You could plug yourself into the mains. See what happens.

Which plugs do you mean - the 12v accessory outlets, or the 13 amp mains
plugs? If the latter, they *will* only work when you have a mains
connection - unless (very unlikely!) they're powered by an inverter - and
even then, you'd flatten the battery pretty quickly if you ran mains
equipment off it for more than a few minutes!

How does a solar panel work if I had one ? How would I get electric to the
plug sockets?

You STILL haven't said which plugs/sockets you are talking about! Please
clarify.

Wires, dear boy. Harry will tell you more.

Never mind these caravanning types, here's the straight answer...

If your sockets are three pin square like at home, then they're mains 240v
sockets and will only work when you're hooked up to the campsite's mains
240v system.

Your leisure battery will supply 12v power to your interior lights, water
pump, loo, etc.

Not necessarily. My 240v sockets switch over to an inverter if the 240 is
absent (which it usually is). This allows for laptop charging, shaver
charging etc, without mains. Obviously you don't plug 3KW kettles in.
