Aren't Sterling part of the Swift Group? ;-)

We've had a Swift for two years now and it doesn't leak. I honestly don't
think Swifts (at least recent ones) are any more prone to leaking than
any other make. Our previous caravan was an Elddis, that didn't leak
either, but the overall build quality of the Swift in my opinion is
streets ahead of it.
Regards,
Dave.
Can't be too sure how much longer it will remain watertight as a minor
collision just punctured the side in two places and our insurers are talking
about 5 months for new panels to be delivered. Just have to hope that non
setting mastic and transparent tape will keep the insulation dry.

yep mine leaks, been "mended" twice, once last Easter, again under warranty
last September, and now again. I'm waiting for the "service man" to
come........

My Swift Danette had also started leaking after about 4 years (see
also in threads on 'Swift Motorhomes...' and 'Do I have to buy
'Foreign'...'), but then our previous Mardon also leaked after about 3
years.
My father bought an early Swift in the 60's (It still sits next to my
mother's bungalow!), which DIDN'T leak for 17 years.
I actually pointed this out to Swift in a letter to them regarding my
leaking 4 year-old model. (It didn't do any good!).
The probability of any 'van leaking will increase with its age, its
usage, and its maintenance.
If you keep a 'van long enough I suspect most 'vans will leak.
What a buyer wants is a 'van which doesn't leak in a short time.
Personally, anything less than 6-7 years, I would consider to be a
short time for a caravan.
In talking to non-solus dealers, and independent caravan repairers in
the mid 90's, there were certainly indications that Swifts had a
bigger than average problem with regard to damp. Within the NG, for
example, there seems to be greater satisfaction with Baileys than with
Swifts.
In 1999 the CC carried out a survey on the quality and reliabilty of
members' caravans. I no longer have that issue of En Route but I seem
to remember that the issues of primary concern were;-
i) Water ingress,
ii) Availability of spares, panels and windows etc.
iii) Unladen noseweight.
I don't recall any comparative figures for different manfacturers
being given, but until that happens, maufacturers will have to put up
with the perceptions of the public concerning the quality of their
caravans.
I think I'm correct in saying that Caravans International (CI the
owners of Sprite) used to be the largest European manufacturer of
caravans in the 60's and 70's. Now its a German manufacturer, Hobby.
Why? Quality control maybe, á la BMC and VW??
Take care out there, Doc L.
I've gotta say that it has been a really good 'van...no gripes at all apart
from the water pump....Carver..... we'eve used THREE in four years but can't
blame that on Swifts.
