It's been a while since Grangers stopped selling Mesowax - the canvas
waterproofer and preserver upon which I have relied for many years for
cotton canvas tentage.

It seems that the closest equivalent we can get in the UK now is a
Canvas proofer from Storm, which is a water based preparation unlike
Mesowax, which was spirit based. Both of these being specifically for
natural fibre canvas and NOT synthetics.

So how would they compare in a side by side comparison?

Well, having found my last remaining can of Mesowax contained enough to
reproof one of two virtually identical heavyweight, poly-cotton canvas
swags I own, I have decided to re-proof one with Storm canvas proofer,
and one with Mesowax.

These swags are of similar age, and had similar usage, and have last
month, been reproofed according to instructions with each of the above
preparations.

I will be very interested to find out if the Stormcare offering, is the
equal of the time tested Mesowax. Especially with cotton tentage making
a comeback after having almost disappeared in the UK over the last 20 or
30 years.

Hi, glad to see someone reads this group.

Ok, so having given both swags similar usage over the last few years,
albeit reduced usage due to Covid, there is as yet. very little difference.

Both swags retain the slight odour of the proofer that was used, not
overpowering, just a hint.

Condensation remains almost nonexistent in both, just as prior to
treatment, hence breathability is unimpaired

As for water repellency, The discontinued Grangers product(Mesowax) may
just have a very slight, almost insignificant edge on the Stormcare.
Under dripping water, the swag treated with the Stormcare started to
show areas where the droplets were not beading and running off, and
began to show a damp patch. I must stress however, that water did not
migrate through the canvas at any time, and I would not consider the
product inferior, and it may quite possibly be an inconsistency in
application to blame.

Bottom line, nothing to choose between them, the Stormcare canvas
proofer and preservative does as good a job as Mesowax ever did!
So will I continue to use the Stormcare proofer? Definitely!
