Dear All,

I am trying to find a mains powered inflator/deflator to blow up/deflate
my boat and children's toys (pools, bouncy castles etc). The only ones
I can find are from Argos and they are:

1)Only powered by 12v DC from cigarette lighter in car, I need mains.

2)Incredibly slow.

Does anyone have any idea about where I might get a more effective pump?

regards

David,

The ‘Automotive types’ i.e. car tyre inflaters are designed for high
pressure, low volume. They will work (eventually) but, as you say, are
very slow.

What you want is low pressure, high volume. Sort of thing you see
advertised in the Barclaycard magazine for air matresses? Try
camping/caravan suppliers or even Marine Chandlery Stores? West Marine
(in the US) will send on a catalogue, which you can order from:-
http://www.westmarine.com Most of these, for obvious reasons are going
to be ‘portable’ hence 12volt DC.

The only Bouncy-Castles I’ve ever seen have a big industrial blower
running permanently? Try:- http://www.oxfly.co.uk/ads/bryandown.htm
for some info.

Most chandlers sell decent inflators. Try www.e-m-s.co.uk or companies like
Compass Marine and Pumpkin Marine. Buy a Practical Boat Owner and check out
the ads.

I use our domestic vacuum cleaner to inflate the blow-up bed. Just detach the
bag and place a suitable sized hose to connect the hoover to the inflatable.
After you have finished, use the hoover to quickly deflate it too!

Don't just do it, do it right!
