Received my copy of this incredible piece of work yesterday. However,
for those out there who have also purchased it, have a look at page 6
of the small instruction manual. It shows a small square box with an
X in it which should be clicked to collapse the Taxonomy tree when
branches have been opened out. My problem is this. I don't seem to
have a small box with an X in it! I have tried uninstalling it and
re-installing it with no luck. Has anyone else noticed this
problem/bug?

Am at the moment trying to install my copy of BWP with a remarkable lack of
sucess - when installed it crashes every time I attempt to run the program.
Not had this problem before - has anyone else had problems? May well require
a call to OUP electronic publishing support..........

Setup fails every time with an illegal operation, caused by
"InstallShield Engine EXE accessing memory improperly or encountering
some non-specific error". Its a good idea to have the Dr Watson utility
running in the background, so any problems that occur can be recorded.
OUP's electronic publishing support are supposed to be e-mailing me a
report form. They could not fix it over the phone, & so far I have not
received the form !!!

I wait with baited breath......

If this is a problem actually installing as opposed to running the package
then I too have the problem & I have reported it to OUP.
Setup crashes with GP fault.

I was talking to them this afternoon as it happens and they have had a
handful of calls about installation failures. The installer is
InstallShield, which is the commonest and arguably the best available,
and so shouldn't give problems. Unfortunately, though, the combinations
of personal computer set-ups, and especially including other software,
is infinite. One suggestion, I think always made by InstallShield when
it starts up but widely ignored, is to close down ALL other windows
software which might be running, and it has to be said that one
sometimes doesn't remember just how much might be chugging away in the
background. Some virus checkers interfere with the installation of
software - I suppose it's their job to in a way, but I think you can
take it that these CDs are virus free! Other problem software, which I
have heard cause problems, is a background monitoring program like
CleanSweep and/or CrashShield. Close them ALL down and then try BWP
again. Only if it doesn't work then, get onto OUP Electronic Publishing
and ask for their help.

Well my copy stalls everything before making "Bill Gates will never
speak to you again" noises. But before all dies I get a message saying
that I don't have 16 bit colour. I know I don't, which is a long and
bitter story, but failure to set your monitor to 64K colours etc. will
cause a crash.

I have just managed to install this wonderful piece of software after some
initial problems were encountered. It always caused a general protection
fault.
After much experimenting I found I was running a program called Quarterdeck
Service Manager. After disabling this the whole thing installed correctly.

Has anyone tried installing the other CD`s on their hard drives and setting
the preferences to point to their location on the hard drive.

I have and the program continues to ask me to insert the original CD. Any
suggestions.

I have reported the details of my problem to OUP electronic publishing
now, but they don't work over the weekend so I have to wait until
sometime next week to get a response. The people you speak to on the
phone cannot solve anything but the simplest problems so, regardless of
how brilliant this software is, it'll be some days before I get some
return on the dosh I've forked out :-(((

I cannot install either. I get a message saying Isinst30 or some such then
a GPF. I've tried Malcolm's suggestion (he mailed me a few days ago) but it
still hasn't installed. Has anyone else got an AMD chip? I wonder if this is
the problem. When I first bought my PC a year ago Dorling Kindersley had to
send me a patch, which solved the problem. They responded in about a week.
Impressive!.
So , sorry others are having a problem, but relieved it's not just me as OUP
might get on to it quickly.

Julie's message sounds like the same as mine (reference to ISINST30),
however my system is Pentium II, not AMD (I was asked the question when
reporting the problem). I've also tried installing with nothing else running
as far as I can determine & still no luck. Plenty of other stuff installs
quite happily via Installshield.

Finally got an e-mail today from a technician. They have been able to
replicate the problem I had in their lab, & it is to do with the mouse
wheel programme running while setup takes place. This problem is
apparently quite rare at 2-3 instances per 15,000 (OUP claim). I was
getting the "Isinst30" message, so this should be the solution for you.

Solution: Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del to get the Task Manager window, & shut
down mswheel, & other things like anti-virus software, toolbar etc, &
then run the setup package.

Once it works, it is very good, video clips & all!!!

Oh! Someone with a posh mouse, eh? Mice on wheels, indeed! Well, these
mice get above themselves sometimes, obviously. I suggest you show your
mouse the BWP entry for Kestrel :-)

Get a life
Get a wheel
Get mobile & NAVIGATE that screen !!! ;-)

Besides it's a Microsoft IntelliMouse, so it's far too clever to be
caught out in the middle of the mouse pad - when it sees the Kestrel it
duck(!)s under the side of the monitor.

And anyway, Kestrels don't eat computer equipment, although no-one has
told the mouse....

I had no with installing CDROM 2 and 3 on my Harddisk and after putting is
in the preferences book it worked well. Although i do not think it should
matter, but first i've made two directories in the BWP directory and called
them CDROM 2 and ..3.

Scott and other birders,

I do not have these problems but i have had the following:
I have run into trouble
with the instalation under Windows98. De setup seems to go all right.
But...... When you start the program you get the following pop-up
message: BWP on CD-ROM General protection fault in module Dibeng.dll
at 0003:0FAA.

You get that message everytime you do something in the page, which is
shown.
After hitting the toolbar everything seems to work but i do get the
dibeng.dll message many times especially when in open an order or when
i change through programs everytime i come back at BWP on CD Rom i get
the message. By the way you have to ok it to do somethingelse in the
program.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, and closed my
virusguard as was suggested in the Install Faq.
