I noticed this male on the patio and watched him for some time as I wasn't
sure if he was resting one leg. It soon became clear that he has lost one
up as far as the feathers, at least. He is managing fine. He hops on one
leg and uses his wings to help maintain balance.

A few days ago, I saw him feeding on the berries in the Hawthorn tree. He
swallowed two and then took off. But, as he flew, he grabbed an third berry
from a different branch "en passant"! Amazing flying skills!

I have posted a short video of him on the Video page of my web site

him.

Thank you, Peter. I am also a fan of your canal but I haven't been along it
since the 1980s. Still fond memories, though. Must be the prettiest on the
system. We used a friend's boat from Castlethorpe. Happy Daze!
