I first bought 10x50 binoculars from Lidl some years ago. Unfortunately
they succumbed to gravity and irreparable damage when the cheap shoulder
strap broke. I was going to replace it with a sturdier strap but didn't get
around to doing it until after the event. Next time they were available I
bought two pairs (as this offer came around rather infrequently). On the
first pair I put to use the eye cap came adrift and wouldn't stay on so I
had a replacement. The same occurred with the replacement so I had my money
back on that. The same problem is occurring (infrequently) with the pair
I'm currently using.

Whilst at one time I would have wholeheartedly recommended these bins I
would now not be so forthcoming. Caveat emptor - especially if these are the
same as from Lidl!

The one pair of Lidl bins I bought are still perfect, I use them a lot.
The only fault I found with them is that they are quite heavy.

I appreciate this may sound rather arrogant and inappropriate but, after
many years of trying to use less than adequate bins, a couple of years
ago I bit the bullet and invested in a decent pair. I got them second
hand from a very reputable dealer. Swarovski 10 X 42. The best
investment I ever made! The clarity of image and ease of use made a
fantastic difference and I anticipate they will outlast me. I am not
trying to promote Swarovski, Leica, Nikon or any other brand but I truly
believe that while Lidl and similarly bracketed stores are excellent for
certain products, when it comes to being able to observe a bird clearly,
the better the bins, the greater the pleasure. I suspect I will regret
posting this, however ............ :-))

I don't see why you'll regret posting this. It's unlikely you'll be
attacked for buying a pair of Swarovski.
Myself I like my Lidl bins, perfectly adequate for me. So much better than
the ones I had.

I bought a pair of Nikkon Travel-Lites 9 x 21, mainly because they can
be carried everywhere in my pocket when I'm out walking.
I do understand that they are not the best, because I've tried what
others have been carrying.

I use them when I'm not walking very far! They are very much
easier to home in on birds with than the Travellites, mainly due to the
larger object lens, but are only just usable for me because my eyes must
be closer together than most!
The minimum width setting is rather wide, and the closest focus distance
makes them useless for garden or close work.

Yes, I agree with all that, they are heavy and no good in the garden but
when I go to Watermead Park they are brilliant. You can't really grumble
about them for the price.

I was in Morrisons s'arternoon, and there was a pair out of the box so I
tried them.

The eye width was smaller than my LiDl ones, but the minimum focusing
distance was worse, much too far for garden work.
I'll stick with LiDL ( and Nikkon Travel-lites).

Sir, you are an unpatriotic traitor. I suspect that you drive a
foreign car and eat foreign muck. It is utterly outrageous. Who won
the war, for goodness' sake?
Anyway, aside from that - how's it going? How's life back in Blighty?
Me, I'm stuck on the tiny island of Islay (I'm the chairman of the
island, you know) hoping and praying for some warming on this
miserable globe.
