Hello,

Somebody is going to sell me a old Kenwood KR-V9010 A/V Amp
to me. He claimed that there are **** 130W x 2 L/R ****
+ surround.

I just want to know whether there figure (130W x 2)
is true or not ? RMS or what ?

Please help me since I am going to make the final
decision based (mainly) on its output power.

Please send me a copy of your hint by email if you
don't mind.

Many thanks in advance !

Most of these consumer amplifiers will put out the power that is
specified, but not at a full audio spectrum sweep using continious
sine. The amplifier you are mentioning here is not regarded as a
real high end or studio grade unit. It is a standard consumer unit,
therefore don't expect cutting edge specs.

It will however play very well for the average listener into a
properly matched set of speakers. If you want cutting edge specs I
would suggest to look at the real studio grade or high end audio file
equipment. You will be absolutly sure in most cases the high end
unit will outperform the specs written on the spec sheets.

Actually, if a consumer amp sold in the US won't do this over the range the
manufacturer specifies, legal action against that manufacturer can and has
followed.

(1) read the spec. Some detailed specs admit that the amp can't put out full
power 20-20k. One such piece of equipment is the Pioneer SX-205. AFAIK, it
is only rated for full power down to 50 Hz. Therefore, it can be expected to
FAIL test involving "...a full audio spectrum sweep using continious sine."

(2) Specs like amplfier power are based on a resistive load with a certain
resistance. Speakers are not the same as resistors, so amplifier performance
can be audibly different into speaker loads than it is into resistive loads.
Many modern speakers are intentially designed to be reasonable loads for
typical amplifiers. However, there are notable exceptions, like certain
Martin-Logans, Acoustat, and some higher end and/or legacy Infinity models.

I've got a KR-V6060 which is OK but the surround output is very poor (only
20W for the rears) so check all of the power ratings out. There are a few
annoying features about my amp too - like if you mute from the remote you
can't 'unmute' from the actual amp, half the tuner functions are missing on
the remote and there's no single button to go straight from Surround Mode to
normal Hi-Fi mode without going through 'Theatre', 'Dolby 3' and all that
crap first. OK amp and at the time it was the best I could get for the
money (6 or 7 years ago). Preferred the Technics I had before that though.
