I seem to remember reading it's something to do with the fixing of the
magnets: the 990s were sensitive to shock - if the phones were dropped
or knocked the magnets could become dislodged. This was fixed in the
990Pro.
This was only what I read a while ago and I'm quoting it from memory,
so can't say it's gospel.
