Hello,

A few years ago I bought a second hand Luxman D-103u CD Player. I have
damaged the 'stop' button which I am very much hoping can be repaired.
In case I have to think about buying a replacement I should like to
know:-

1/ How much I would have to pay out to get a new machine of equal
quality.

2/ Has modern technology/economics improved to an extent that many
players of around £400 out perform machines which cost, for example,
£800 eight to ten years ago.

I should also be interested to know when this model was produced, its
cost at the time and how it was regarded.

Thanks,

Vernon.

Hello Vernon,

in response to your answer, only have been used a Luxman D-105u CD player
for six years. This model had a very good ratio cost/quality. This design
was made in1989/1990 and may be superseeded by others actual digital
sources, but in those days in spain it worth 130.000 pts (about 450 pound at
288 pts/pound actual change). I like so much the sound of this player and I
hear it sometimes instead of my new player Tag McLaren CD20R. This sounds
very good and I belive is neutral with classical music and has modern
technology but sometimes turn on my 105-u to hear it again. In the second
hand marquet of a hi fi stores I saw one of them for sale, if your search
sure you wil find it. I know some people that love the sound of the CD-105u
player.

If you have any question, don´t doubt to ask me.
Regards,

Carlos Honrubia

Thanks for your reply - no need for any apologies.

One reason for my concern about the quality of the Luxman (which I hope
to take in for repair next week) is that I wish to find out if I have a
weak link in my system. I feel that I am getting a 'clouding' of the
mid-range sound when lots is going on at once. As well as the Luxman I
have B&W CDM1 speakers, a Linn Kolektor pre amp and a NAD 208 power amp
