I don't own a SACD player now but buy the disks of
new releases (Goldfrapp - Supernature; Depeche
Mode - Playing the Angel) as my next player will
be SACD compatible. I don't care about DVD-A,
since even fewer of them are available.

I am willing to spend say 10% more for them than
for normal CD's, but not much more.

a) Do you think SACD is doomed?

b) Have you listened to a new recording mastered
for SACD from step 1 instead of an old recording
converted for SACD? What was the sound like?

c) What are your thoughts on SACD in general.

You are right about DVD-A it seems to me a blind alley

Well produced SACDs are amazingly good.

My Yamaha amp DSP-AX1 (which cost serious money) does a good job of
recreating room acoutics but SACD is more real and better sounding.

Newly mastered stuff is even more amazing, listen to Dark Side of the Moon
on SACD - you will agree.

I expect SACD will die out shortly since, even though it is grand, most
people don't have (and are not prepared to pay for) decent equpment to
reproduce it on.

I hope I am wrong, but I fear I am not!

Regards, Roger

No

Not an issue for me since the hybrid CD layer lets me play it
anywhere.

Yes.

No.

No interest in using it. Seemed mainly an attempt by Philips to maintain a
revenue stream which they have lost as the patent time-limits on CD have
been running out. :-) Also may well have some inherent flaws despite the
marketing hype. Thus I won't weep should it vanish.

Your conclusions are certainly valid considering your lack of exposure
to the medium.
