I have the E20-E30 combo but can't comment on the E200-E300. The combo sound
great: impressive detailing, imaging and voicing. The headroom of the E30
blows you away. I have compared the combo to a lot of amps (also to other
amps of MF) and opposed to those to me the E30 never sounded restrained.
I find the combo sensitive to interlinks. Let me inform you on my
interlink-quest. First, I used a Kimber PBJ. Between the E20-E30 the bass
was very tight, but depth lacked somewhat and the trebles were not natural.
After that I used 'The Second' from Van den Hul. This interlink withholded a
lot of details but was all the more natural. Right now, I'm using Van den
Hul's 'The First Ultimate' which has all the qualities I'm looking for: I do
not have to listen to the equipment anymore, but instead I can dig deep into
the music.
The review of the E20-E30 combo in 'What-HIFI' was very positive but the
reviewers complained of slowish bass. In my configuration this is only the
case with the wrong interlinks and when I put the E20 on top of the E30. The
E20 deserves a dedicated shelf! What's positive on the E20 is the highish
input impedance of 45 kohm. I have a tube CD-player with 3,5 output voltage
(!!) and the E20 holds it own.
The speakers I'm using are Totem Sttafs (www.totemacoustics.com) and to me
the E20-E30 are synergistic with the Totems: both seek musical involvement
and both have plenty of that. I love various kinds of music (ranging from
jazz, pop, hard(rock), middle ages & to baroque) and to me music sounds
right when voices sound real. So, if you are looking voor natural voicing, I
can hearthily recommend the Musical Fidelity E20-E30 and the Totem Sttafs.
Have Fun,
