I am considering souping-up my faithful Pioneer player. Does anyone on the
group have any experience of the various Trichord mods (clock2 / clock3 /
PSU)?

Working as a service engineer for a Hi-Fi specialist we have over a number
of years clocked all sorts of makes of cd players including my own ageing
Marantz CD85 and I think it's fair to say that all of the machines done
showed improvements in overall enjoyment of the sound. I think we had 1
customer with a Philips machine that didn't like it so we took it out and
off he went, I suppose it depends how old your Pioneer is and if the clock
kit may be transferable to another machine (clock frequency would have to be
the same) it would be an expensive exercise to do then find that the optical
unit has failed and it's either very expensive to replace or no longer
available.

A bit late reply perhaps, but I just hooked up to this newsgroup. I
upgraded my old, cheap Philips CD player about 5 years ago with the
first Trichord kit - and we experienced that it was well worth the money.

Howver I recommend you even more to take a look at LClock Mk2 from
LCaudio (www.lcaudio.dk) I installed that one hasslefree just two weeks
ago and would say (my own very subjective opinion) that its at least as
good as the Trichord - at a very affordable cost, at least here in
sweden.

How easy is this to do, for someone without electronics training? Is
it easy to identify what to remove/replace?

I'm tempted to tinker with a Rotel RCD965.

I found it quite easy to manage the exchange. What you basically do is
to remove the crystal and two capacitors, then you solder two wires to
connect your *new* crystal. But if you are hesitating you should perhaps
not do it yourself.

You can find mounting instructions for your Rotel on the international
pages of LCaudio website (lok at the right on the top frame for
international) or you can pay LCaudio to do it for you.

GoodLuck!

Thanks for this info, Stefan. Will check out the site--which I didn't
have time to do when I posted my query.
