Hi! I have a friend with a Jewel Aquarium that has problems.
Condensation leaks down all sides of the tank instead of dripping back
inside the tank. This must be a design flaw. Anyway, I just wondered
if anyone has any useful tips to stop the condensation? Would any
plastic condensation tray do? Or do you have any other ideas?

Cheers for any help

Lee

Does he have airstones near the sides of the tank? The 'manual' specifically
states that due to the design of the hood airstones can cause capilliary
action of condensation/splashes if they are near the sides of the tank. I
have two airstones on occasionally towards the centre of the tank, and get
no problems.

A condensation tray won't help if the water is going between the hood and
the glass...

Lee,

Juwel tanks are not intended to be filled right to the top (if you look
at the in-built Juwel filter you'll see that the water level isn't
supposed to be more than half covering the out-let spout, which puts it
about 2" below the top of the tank. Is it possible your friend's tank is
over-full?

Also, check the seals at the top corners of the tank. It is possible
these are leaks, rather than condensation.

I have two Juwel tanks and I haven't had this problem with either of
them.

Hi Lee
Anne is spot on, i overfilled my tank once (too busy watching television
while the tank was filling). If you fill it beyond the bottom of the plastic
rim of the tank then water can get underneath and comes down the front of
the tank. I run my Juwel Rio with loads of airstones and i do not get any
problems with any condensation. Airstones do tend to splash water onto the
lights which causes a build up of scale over time. If you let the scale get
too thick it starts to create hot spots on the tube and will wear it out
quickly, not to mention reduce the light output.
Juwel have a website:
http://www.juwel-aquarium.com/index.html
May be worth e-mailing them and see what they have to say.
Phil.

Hi,
I have Juwel 180 and have had no problems at all. I have 2 airstones and
an air connection to the Eheim filter outlet I also use as well as the
internal one.

As the tank backs onto an outside window the back and one side is
covered with polystyrene sheet covered with backdrop sheet to disguise it.

I make sure the tank is only filled up to the maximum line and have had
no problem. In fact, I saw the warning about airstones and wondered what it
was all about.

Regards,
John
