I knew THAT .......
I have a HUGE stock of 200w 150w 100w watt bulbs in the garage........but at
work I have to force people top fit 50% of those crappy things
This is one area of Global Warming where we (well, some of us) are being
well and truly hoodwinked, conned, lied to, and generally treated like
idiots. It's worth listening to the item on CFL low-energy lightbulbs in
today's BBC R4 'More or Less' programme. It's on first.

Thanks for thatI will have a listen when the dragon goes out on her
works Christmas do, tonight.
I bought plenty incandescent types for my workbench lamps at work, when
we found out about tha ban.
And, just as Jim has done I will be burning stashed ones, at home till I
pop me clogs.
Often!
Some of BS5750 when I was pushed into it in the NHS some years ago.
Ok sometimes you kind of though, that's better why did I not think of that
before.
Other times..What the hell, you must be joking.
But it was a MUST DO thing.

I bought 2 packs of 20 -100 watts from RAPID recently.
They are hid with my Coke stash LOL.

Yes. Fix french and italian cars. and Vauxhall Fronteras.

Yes, Unleaded solder & Surface Mount inductors.
It is life Jim, but not as we know it.
I know...the world is f****d
If you not enjoying it any more do something else. You're a long time
dead so enjoy life!

Life is too short for cheap wine.
Have you tried the halogen ones? A bit dearer than the "normal" incandescent
lamps but a much better light to work by.
For close up illumination, you cant beat an old fashioned 250 W bulb

In a year or two they'll be a more reasonable price, and all the florescent
low energy bulbs we now use will become obsolete
Pretty much the opposite of what you manage
Interesting. I have 5ft flourescents above my work bench and find
supplementing them with a 75W halogen the best solution for close work-
although I've not tried a 250W bulb!
I tend not to do very much close work these days ( fingers don't work so
well) but find the halogen the best supplement when I do. Even as a desk
light for I prefer the "whiter" light of a 75W halogen over a 100W "normal"
bulb.
I suppose it comes down to personal choice.
CFLs are hopeless for close work and not that good for general room
illumination. Too "yellow".

FlourescentS - as in _Two_. :-)

Next time you replace a tube, ask for 'Northlight Office'
It's much whiter light than from the usual tubes.
An unexpected comment from you, Sire!

I have a 75w halogen lamp with a magnifier and sometimes use that, but
if I am fault finding on some of the smaller SM boards the surface mount
rework station has its own illumination - a 250w bulb & diffuser !
I still have to use a microscope on some boards and find halogen lamps
cast a noticeable shadow on the work , whereas the standard bulbs are
not as bad.
Sometimes it makes the difference for me between seeing poor soldering
or not.
Then again my eyes are crap to start with :(
There a couple of decent LED street lights coming on to the market at
the moment but they cost over 500 a pop! You simply can't get a
financial return on any savings on the cost of energy and maintenance at
that price.
The colour may be a major problem in domestic situations as the white
is really harsh and uniformity poor. Philips have got round the problem
by enclosing their LEDs behind a phosphor coated glass similar to that
used in florescent tubes. It reduces the efficacy of the lamp slightly
but looks very effective.

Why?
no point .......

What worries me in the short term is it won't be long before China buys up
at least half the worlds petrol supplies for those cars, pushing oil to at
least
$200 a barrel, and us paying at least 2 a litre.
In the long term our only hope is fusion energy, if the bottle to hold the
sun
is successfully developed before fossil fuels runs out then we can look to a
both a comfortable future and low Co2, if not we can look forward to a
new Mad Max middle ages ;-(

Why should we worry about low Co2? I see the sceptics are making
headlines on Co2 causing global warming these last few days. Don't give
any government a reason to tax us even wore.
