George McGeoch who has
made a series of abusive and
disgusting broadcasts over
the airwaves claims he is
related to two well known
families in Glasgow.
McGeoch, who is known as
Podgy, made allegations he is part of
Jamie Daniel’s and Robert
Dempster's families. Pictured on the
front page clockwise are Jamie
Daniel, Dempster and McGeoch.
One caller told The Digger that he
was threatened by McGeoch who
has been claiming he was related to
them.
Last week we reported that the
amateur radio ham had been using
radio broadcasts to intimidate other
users of the frequency.
One source, who wished to remain
anonymous fearing reprisals, told
The Digger: "George has been
threatening people with the Daniel
and the Dempster crew.
“He tells people if anything kicks
off the Daniels will get involved.
People think Linda Stoops is his
sister.
“George has been making racist
comments about people from
England. This abuse is heard across
the globe. People in the USA have
warned other radio users not to talk
to him. George told me he was going
to set me on fire. He's a bully and
wants the international call signal for
himself.
“People in Possil weren't sure if
there was a connection with the
Daniels and the Dempsters. Some
said it was true, others said it was
rubbish.”
Another source said a member of
the Daniel family close to Jamie
warned McGeoch not to use their
name: “He [McGeoch] starts
shouting the Daniel family. He has
been quoting their name. He's not
related to the Daniel family.
“Ofcom know about the
complaints. If he mentions their
name [Daniel] or it shows up in the
paper they'll go through his door. If
anybody is getting bothered by him
they are to let them know.
“They don't rate him highly.”
We did some gum shoe work and
found out that there are McGeouchs
connected to the Dempster and
Daniel families but the name is spelt
differently to Podgy's.
We traced a connection to both
families through a woman called
Linda McGeouch.
Linda who is split from her
husband still uses her married name
Stoops.
We tried to approach her brother
George McGeouch, who is in his 60s
and lives in Possil in Balgair
Gardens. His wife Margaret was
asked if she knew Podgy, who lives
a mile away in Milton. We showed
her a picture of Podgy and asked her
if this was Linda Stoops’s brother.
She said that her husband was not
involved in CB radio and said she
didn't recognise the man in the
picture.
Margaret McGeouch said: “No, no
my husband has not got a radio and
doesn’t do anything like that.”
We asked whether he had a
younger brother or any other family
that would be making the broadcasts
and she said: “My husband has a
nephew called George it might be
him, but we’re not very close and I
don’t know much about him.”
She didn’t know where he lived.
On Monday, January 16 we went to
Balgair Gardens again and asked

Margaret if she knew the man in the
picture (the snap of McGeoch), she
confirmed she didn’t. She had never
seen him before and she said he
didn't look like her husband or his
family.
Linda Stoops was married to Mark
Stoops in 1986. She is 49 and has
seven brothers and one sister.
The McGeouch family originate
from Closeburn Street. Linda is the
live-in partner of Robert Dempster,
who took over Ruchill Security from
Lewis Rodden. Linda brought up
Robert Daniel after Linda's sister
Ann died. Robert's father –– Jamie
Daniel's brother –– drowned in the
Clyde in 1976 when Robert Jr was
two years old. Linda used to run the
Lido Cafe in Saracen Street before
it was taken over.
A message on YouTube posted last
week said: “I know all about the
family mate and to be honest I
couldn't give a f***.
“George McGeoch is a wee
s******* who tries to intimidate
people with his family, but I've been
told by people very close to them
that he's an embarrassment to them
and they want f*** all to do with
him. People have been to his door
but he didn't have the balls to come
out and face them so doesn't that tell
you the sort of person he is?”
A second caller to The
Digger said: "I know George.
He is nothing to do with the
Daniel mob. He's hot headed.
Ofcom in Glasgow is as good
as an ashtray on a motorbike.
They don't have any funds to
deal with it. I've never heard
Podgy use the Daniels’ name.
It's about who can shout the
loudest. These abusive
messages are going around the
world. There are Rangers and
Celtic fans on air but it is just
banter. Noising each other up.
These stations are getting
abused by idiots. The station has
sectarian abuse on it and Ofcom
are not stopping it. The user
stopped after the abuse increased
and nothing was done.”
He said: “I don't want to hear
the abuse coming from Scotland
it’s embarrassing for us. If the
weather conditions are good
these messages are heard across
the globe. The abusive comments
are being recorded and passed on
without you knowing. Ofcom
have been told about recording
transmissions. This was a
gentleman's hobby which has
been ruined by idiots,” he said.
We called the police and asked
them if they had been to visit
McGeoch before we published last
week's article on him. The police
refused to confirm that a complaint
has been made against him. One
source told us that the police were
at his door last week. We
approached McGeoch where he
lives in Raasay Street and he
threatened our reporter and a
photographer. He claimed he was
not George McGeoch. A man
claiming to be McGeoch called The
Digger and claimed he was living in
Ireland.
During the phone conversation one
of our reporters knocked on his door
in Milton and we could hear the
knock and his dog barking.
Ofcom said: “We have
investigated or are in the process of
investigating any complaints related
to this case within Ofcom's powers
under the Wireless Telegraphy Act.”
