BUDDIES WILL GET A NEW RADI0 STATION NEXT YEAR (I thought we already had
one?)
Q96 is being converted to RockRadio 96.5 FM starting on January 8 so much
for a local based radio station for paisley as this will now broadcast from
bailiston in the far side of Glasgow.
this means they have moved twice and totally made paisley a mug!!!! Yeah of
course they will keep to the conditions of doing 3-4 outside broadcasts from
Paisley......That`s part of the conditions of the licence¬¬¬
What happened to the state of radio in Paisley Who was it that sold us
out????
WE HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT OF A LOCAL RADIO STATION WITH LOCAL PEOPLE ON
IT............. OUR LICENCE HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM US!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO
THE COMMUNITY RADIO STATION WE WERE PROMISED IN THE FIRST CASE IN THE LATE
80S?????..................
THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AND FERGUSLIE RADIO IS JUST THERE TO MAKE THE
COMMUNITY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT AND OTHER LOOK GOOD AS IF IT REALLY HAS
SOMETHING TO OFFER FERGUSLIE!!!!!
THE H.N.C IN RADIO BROADCASTING IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN
ON........
Does any of them get fancy jobs at other stations!!! Not on my nelly!!!!!
WHY DONT THEY GIVE PAISLEY BACK THE PROPER RADIO STATION IT IS SUPPOSED TO
HAVE.....OR WAS IT THEIR INTENTION TO USE THE FERGUSLIE ONE AS A CATALYST TO
GET THEMSELVES OUT OF PAISLEY AND MAKE MONEY FORM ADVERTISING IN OTHER
AREAS????????????
WE HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paisley Daily Express article below............
PAISLEY'S new radio station will rock on to the airwaves on Monday, January
8.
Buddies who tune into 96.3 Rock Radio will be able to hear classic hits from
the last 40 years.
The new station will take the place of Q96 FM, which has been bought over by
rival operators GMG, who also own Real Radio.Bosses at Rock Radio have said
it will have a target audience of 800,000 in Renfrewshire, Glasgow and
Dunbartonshire on FM and across the west of Scotland on digital.
And they have pledged their commitment to broadcasting Paisley-based news
and content.Rock Radio will share studios with sister station Real Radio in
the Baillieston area of Glasgow. And one of the first DJs to be heard will be
River City actor Kieron Elliott. The daredevil presenter, who is a keen fan
of skydiving, will return to Scotland full-time to take up the position of
breakfast show host. The 32-year-old presenter's career started when he was a
contestant on the Prickly Heat television show on Sky One, where he was
singled out to front pieces to camera.
The show's host Davina McCall was so impressed that she suggested Kieron try
his hand at professional presenting.Since then, he has hosted ITV's Wish You
Were Here and presented Channel 5's Night Fever. As a professional actor, he'
s been in Hollyoaks Moving On and, more recently, River City. His voice can
also be heard introducing programs on BBC Three.
Kieron said: This is a dream come true. Not only will I be moving back to
Scotland, I'll also be working on a station that plays exactly the music I
listen to all day.
It's going to be like my own personal i-pod track list but I get to
introduce them. I genuinely can't wait. These are very exciting times.
Programme Director Jay Crawford added: Kieron is a real all rounder but he
seems to excel at everything he turns his hand to.
I have no doubt that he is the perfect man for the job.
Over the next few weeks, we hope to announce other key presenters who will
join Kieron on the weekday schedule. And Billy Anderson, Rock Radio's
Managing Director, said: This is a very exciting time for GMG as a radio
group launching a new brand and also for Scotland.
As Scotland's first classic rock station, we will provide an alternative
listen whilst encompassing the key local news and information services for
our listeners.
Q96, which currently employs around 20 people, had its original base in Lady
Lane from the early 1990s, before leaving Paisley for good for offices in
Kinning Park, Glasgow
Yeah yeah yeah!!!!! Paisley`s radio stolen off us!!!!
P.S. what is a newsgrope?.....on second thoughts don't answer that
question.......
Bring back K-OSS FM with those "famous" MM3/2M0 pirates Joe and Rab ! and
with any luck they will lose their hammy licenses.........
HaHa!!! you had me in stitches there Jim!!! I nearly dropped the porage all
over myself this morning! I have to say after reading your posts for a long
time now I understand your sense of humour!!
The fact remains that a licence was given out for a local Radio Station and
I think that the community spirit which it was supposed to have died a long
time ago.I know businesses have to go with the times, but I do feel
passionately about local radio and the state in which it has become. The
grass is certainly greener on the other side for this new station.More
advertising coverage and a lot more profits. The so called local station on
many folks minds does not exist anymore it`s just a big network of bully
boys with a lot of money which gives them the buying power to do what they
want.......
Here is a reply from another forum I`m on.........
You're spot on with your words about the state of local radio and the lack
of "local content", etc. It really annoys me how everything is so "safe" and
bland regarding playlists. Radio has been this way in the UK for ages now,
thanks to the likes of GWR and Capital, etc. Remember the spoof radio comedy
on BBC Radio 4 .. "Radio Active - your local national radio station"? They
got it spot on! UK radio is dire. But it's the same the world over.
Everything is networked these days. It amazes me to hear the same song being
played by so many different stations at exactly the same time as you tune up
and down the FM dial. "Your better music mix", "Hits and memories" AAAAGHH!
I'm going mad! Does anybody actually listen to the likes of Graham
Torrington? Jeez - he's nearly been on the radio as long as John peel was
(my hero btw)! I worked on an RSL station in Nottingham in 1993 and it was
great fun. 'Proper local radio' with real local people and everything was
live, apart from the overnight programming - and some of that was live too!
It's great that we can access RSL stations as it's one of the few remaining
ways to hear proper local radio and something a bit different. Internet
radio is now my favourite.
I feel rather upset about this new Rock station!! As not all of us want to
hear rock all day!! It means we have to endure it..... :-( I know about 4
years ago or more that Dumbarton had a decent station called Dumbarton Rock
FM I think.
The state of local radio and the lack of "local content", is what matters to
me!!
Did you also know that FPR Radio is the only radio station in the country
funded by the Council??? Interesting to say the leas.t........
I wish everyone on the uk.radio.amateur newsgroups up and down the country a
very good Christmas and Happy New Year!! Here is a view from Paisley and
my best wishes to you all in the coming year...

Only for suitably large values of "local". You want alt.uk.paisley .
We're good buddies on here , not Buddies per se.
Good Luck,
Brian

I tried to listen to FPR a few years ago but the "yeeeee heeeee" contest by
those in the studio was too much for me....And yes the Council is always
trying to be inclusive ...a bit like the FL.........

The same has gone on in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Peak107 was launched in
1998 and it was supposed to be a local station for local people.
Since then the station has changed hands at least twice and is now in the
hands of an Irish company. The output and format is about as local as BBC
Radio 1. A disgrace and an insult to local people. I think these local
stations should remain in the hands of local people.
Most folk thing radio as a business!! They see an advantage of making money
from it.and stuff the locals!!! LOCAL RADIO IN UK IS A TOTAL DISASTER!!
