My (just out of guarantee) Yaesu FT-897D has developed a fault. When is is
powered on its settings are corrupted and the memories are lost.
It has not simply done a factory reset but has weird values in is settings
such ad Mic Gain at 120%.
Doing a factory reset fixes the corrupt settings and it can be programmed
and it retains the settings whilst on, or off whilst connected to the PSU.
However leaving it off and the PSU off for more than 10 minutes and its
corrupted again when powered up.

I have located the service manual but this does not seem to show a "coin
battery" anywhere that could have gone flat.

Is it Yaesu Service Centre time?

Correct diagnosis! Just got an email back from the Yaesu Service Centre -
the eprom needs changing! They will charge
£48 per hour plus parts, return carriage (at £15 for UK only) plus VAT

A lot cheaper than getting your car fixed then :)

They must know (more-or-less to the second) how long it takes to change
the eprom. If so, they should be able to give you (more-or-less) an
exact price.
