Open Watcom f77 is a free open-source Fortran 77 compiler and development environment that allows for the creation of programs using the Fortran programming language. It is commonly used for scientific and engineering applications.
Yes, you can use Open Watcom f77 for commercial purposes as it is a free and open-source software released under the Sybase Open Watcom Public License. However, it is always recommended to review the license agreement for any specific restrictions or requirements.

Open Watcom is an open source C and C++ compiler (also Fortran 77) with a rich collection of tools. It is a cross-platform product running on Windows, OS/2, and DOS (32 bit extended) hosts. Each host can generate programs for all supported systems including 16-bit variations. The current version of Open Watcom also includes experimental support for generating Linux executables.
In the IDE, from the "File" menu select "New Project...". You can use "Open Project..." to open a project that already exists. Browse to the folder where you want to create the project and specify a name for the project by changing noname.wpj to something more suitable. Be sure to keep the .wpj extension on the project definition file.
Switch back to the IDE and use F4 to make the current (and only target). You will be prompted to save your changes in the editor. The IDE opens a "log" window that shows the progress of the compilation. Error messages appear here. If you double-click on an error message you will be taken to the appropriate line of code in the editor.
To run the program, you can click on the running man button on the IDE's toolbar. For a command line program this opens a new console and executes the program in that console. If your program terminates without pausing, the new console will close immediately, and you won't be able to easily see what the program does. In fact, if the program runs quickly, it may not be obvious that it runs at all! As a result of this, you may want to execute such programs in an entirely separate console window.
Hi!
We are back!
Open Watcom is like a mythical bird Phoenix that never dies
and rises again from the ashes.
So do we.
Please be patient while we are rebuilding this site and
come back soon. We will continue developing the official
OW 1.9 line and hopefully will soon bring you the new builds.
Until then, here are the link to current official 1.9 download.

The openwatcom-v2AUR package includes executables for all supported host platforms by default. This can be quite handy sometimes if one for example wants to debug a cross-compiled binary using the watcom debugger wd. In principle, the same could be done also with DOS emulators for example.Steps to set up a WINEPREFIX to use the already existing Watcom install:
The Watcom compiler also supports QNX as a target, but since the libraries were not redistributable with the open source Open Watcom distribution, it has not been well-tested ever since. In theory, it might be possible to still compile for QNX if a C library is built for Watcom

Powersoft acquired WATCOM. Sybase acquired Powersoft. In the early 2000s, projects succeeding WATCOM products was put on hold due to business issue. WATCOM compilers are now released as open source as the name of Open WATCOM. You can download the software from the GitHub.
gfortran, part of the GNU Compiler Collection, is a free Fortran 95/2003/2008 compiler. Like all things from GNU,it comes primarily in source code form. Precompiled binaries (executables) are available for Windows from third-partysites (such as those listed on this page), and if you run Linux, you can probably just get it from your distribution'srepositories.

Open Watcom is an open source application that helps you to maintain and enhance the Watcom C, C++ and Fortran cross compilers and tools. It creates makefiles for projects that can be viewed and edited with a text editor. It can also create projects which contain EXE and DLL files.
