A friend bought me the RSGB books for the new Foundation and
Intermediate Licences as we plan to run courses for the local
club and ACF.

The books are hopeless- I cannot believe they are the best the RSGB can
do. The Foundation book is worthless- 10p as bog fodder and the
Intermediate book is worse. Just like the old Benbow book- especially
after it was tarted up.

I used to teach Novices and RAE and ended up doing my own material.
Looks like I will have to do it again.

Last time I complained about the books I was told that if I couldn't
work from them I wasn't good enough to teach Novices by the tart who
worked on the RAE book.

I could not even get the Intermediate book off them!

Decided not to bother and canceled the order. Guess what they said I
couldn't. They said they had already processed my order. Wrong after
a quick call to the credit card company I blocked the payment which
they had not asked for yet.

Bye Bye RSGB

Roll on RAE in May.

BTW after a quick check it doe not say anywhere in usenet that you
need a call sign.

Flame proof jacket on.

Yeah, never thought much of them.

The other books are usually just a rehash of the 1903 edition that some
new wanabee author has updated. That Case fella and Hilary whiplash are
a pair who do this.

How do the RSGB select the authors? Age (to much- Hilary) or lack of
knowledge (Hilary) or lodge membership (Case boy & Hilarys boyfriend).

ARRL books are better (and QST)

Last time I looked, messages could be posted to newsgroups without using
radio, so why mention call-signs?

That is Harry Bloomfields site. All it has is the RAE last time I
looked. It is a RSGB clone job.

Some one showed me some thing for the foundation by some G4 (Snaith?)-
just a few sheets from M$ power point. Must have take 10mins when he
wasn't thinking.

Anybody game to put together proper training pack? Maybe we could do a
section each and swap sections?

Takers? Post here and I will contact direct.

(No callsign because I don't want _more grief_ from that Hilary !woman!.)

Eh, no. Harry had nothing to do with the above site.

For a while some of the material from http://www.amradioinfo.co.uk/ was on
"Harry's site"
but Harry's way of doing (or often not doing) things didn't match our style
and we parted company.

http://www.amradioinfo.co.uk/ does not have a course for the current RAE.
One for the new RAE will
be added as the syllabus becomes available. It does have a current FL and IL
course.

That sounds like Robert Snary not Snaith, G4OBE. He is the RSGB training
co-ordinator or similar title.

His power point stuff is very top level but I'm not sure it was intended as
a course.

It would be easier if you had an Email address. Why not look at
http://www.amradioinfo.co.uk/
first and see if it meets your needs.

You can always feedback comments etc, if there are bits you think could be
improved.

The site has been updated, using the RNIB recommendations etc, to make it
more accessible to those
with impaired vision. using the RNIB recommendations etc

We plan on adding an instructor section as time allows. It will have power
point slides you can show via a PC or print off and tutor notes.
At the moment we are finishing an IL pilot and plan on a little rest.

How did you manage to block it?

I tried to block continuing debits to PayPal, but was unable
to do so without PayPal's bankers agreeing.

I didn't believe it at the time, but apparently this
is common practice.

Anyone else have problems with PayPal, which is now owned
by EBay?

I don't know about credit card companies, but my bank will quite happily
stop any payment that I instruct them to, provided the payment has not
already been made. The only exception I know of is that of a guaranteed
cheque where the amount is within the card limit.
Regarding your credit card, you could always settle the account and close
it, then open another account elsewhere. There are plenty of credit card
companies around and they are all in competition. Possibly just the threat
would be sufficient for them to find that there was a way, after all, of
cancelling the payment.

I agree that the quality of RSGB books is very variable. I tend to
prefer the ARRL publications myself. With RSGB books it is well worth
looking at them at a rally before buying one. Actually the ARRL have
published some duds too over the years but overall they are better
than the RSGB ones.

It is not my site, it is our groups site. It was not my way of doing
things that so upset you, but the fact that we took the time to discuss
and arrive at democratic decisions, rather than going it alone. The
credit for the effort was also equally distributed no matter of much or
