Help!

I just acquired a new CB rig, with a strange LED on the panel, which has
never lit up so far, labelled "AWI". It is connected inside. Otherwise
it's just as usual, all the normal controls. What's AWI mean? Suggestions
include Antenna/Aerial Warning Indicator (i.e. SWR very wrong, transistors
in danger) but briefly keying with no twig connected at all didn't make it
light. It could analyse the content of incoming transmissions and be an
Audible Wanker Indication, but I doubt it. ;-)

I don't normally read these groups, but I will for the next couple of weeks
in the hope of seeing an answer; if anyone who knows would be kind enough
to email me too, I'd be grateful.

TIA,
- Huge

Antenna Warning Indicator - probably senses rf over-current (or summit)

so, it's on all the time is it? and it goes off if you disconnect your antenna?
Confirmed :-)

AWI is as you first stated, an "antenna Warning Indicator". It lights when the
SWR of the antenna reaches a preset level (Usually 3:1).

It's an antenna warning indicator. I do not think it will light when no
antenna is connected. It needs a proper antenna in circuit to be able to
make its determinations.

Maybe you didn't key up for long enough :-)
