I have another question. I used to be a G4 many years ago but let my
licence lapse around 1992. I am considering getting licenced again but have
no idea where my RAE & morse pass certificates are. Are these needed for
Ofcom to re-issue a licence?

Surely that depends on the tone of the thread. For example, the one re the
Airbus while "of topic" hasn't had the usual "spoilers" joining it and thus
is just a discussion.

If you've some proof you held the callsign there should be an issue. An old
licence would be the best but if you can demonstrate holding the callsign
by, for example a photocopy of the relevant entry in the RSGB callbook, and
that entry relates to you, OFCOM will (re)issue your licence with your old
callsign- no need to take any exams etc.
You can download the form from the OFCOM website, fill it in, enclose the
proof, and 20 and all should be well. Once you've get the licence you will
be "on the system" and so get a username and password to "renew" your
licence every 5 years for free. The 20 is just to "get on the system".
Welcome back.

You are correct that recent aviation thread was long and very
interesting........and we don't want any more scumbags into the hobby.......

try through that door and you can dress up in strange G4 clothes ......
The bullets are much more effective, I find.

Its not always on topic in here.
But it is good chat. Well most of the time.
And we do help out when its required.
But lets be honest.
The chat on aircraft was damn interesting.
I think its a hell of a good advert personally.
Buy yourself a flack jacket from Tox and join in , lol.
But always keep the jacket handy OK.

For what use they are, I might as well shove them up my arse.
A couple of mornings ago I spent around a hour on 40m chatting inter G (M if
you like)...not once did the topic of radio arise...there was a G3...an EI6
(a former G3)...a M3 who was a pleasure to talk too and others...the EI6
cleared and came back to me once he had let his builder in...
My point is that this is an amateur radio NG...and just as in amateur radio
the hobby...topics of conversation are diverse...if every thread on this NG
was on topic I don't think I would visit here...
Take a leaf out of that G4 from Scotland's book...enjoy life...take that
suppository from up your arse and suck on a chill pill instead...oh...and
welcome back to the hobby...

No you didn't. You just borrowed a G4 outfit from that fancy dress shop at
the end of Festive Road.

They're a bit like that other group "Il Divo". I'm reliably informed that's
Italian for "The Divs".
Did Mr Benn ever buy any outfits from that Turkish shopkeeper with the Tommy
Cooper fetish? If he did, I must've missed those esipodes.
>and failing that, i'd know how to Google the answer

How could Google help you with your RAE , morse and Amateur Radio
certificates?
OK, you could probably find out what you need to do in order to reclaim
your licence, but if everyone Googled everything, and found all the
answers that they needed, all the NGs would be virtually deserted!
If the G4 in question would reveal his old callsign, I'll look in my
latest Callbook (1993!), and let him know if he is listed. If so, there
should be no difficulty in reclaiming his callsign and renewing his
licence.

Or you could of course get a replacement C&G certificate. You don't need
the Morse certificate
Or better still go into the Ofcom website and if you can't find the answer,
contact them.

Not quite. You can't have a lively discussion that branches off into 14
different subjects on Google :P
Better still go to the Ofcom website?
Needle in a haystack... Ofcom's site has to be one of the worst designed
in history!

Every 5 years you need to confirm your details to keep the licence current.
"Renew" (in quotes) seemed a good way to summarise that.
You can update your details anytime - go do it now and you won't have to
do it until July 2014.
I've moved home several times since 1992. That's the main problem! Things
go missing during moves.

I was listed in the callbook and have a copy so I should be ok. Thanks Ian.
Thanks for your help Steve.
I got my class A licence when I was 15 so I'm not exactly ancient.

Thank you Brian for the information and sensible reply. I have several
items of proof that I was once licenced. I just wish I could work out what

Someone said the confustion was caused by my having a reciprocal licence

It is possible to get people banned from their ISP as off-topic posting is
contrary to the terms and conditions of use. This needs a quite concerted
effort from several different people with the inclusion of the headers so
the posts can be tracked.
Although, a few brain cells put to work by just a very few morons could sort
it all out as this is not a moderated group, worst luck.
I know ... they are after me ........ all Masons I think ......

I don't think that is true. I think the contributor list would be very
different, which would remove much of the abuse, but I don't think it would
fold. (If you check those who tend to hurl the abuse you will find they
rarely, if ever, offer a worthwhile input on the topics related to amateur
radio.) I can think of several other groups which are doing rather well,
simply because the troublemakers are kept out. People don't always agree in
those groups and sometimes can't even agree to differ but they don't hurl
abuse.

Would you include people who spell the word NONSENSE beginning it with
a B and ending in OCKS ?
Would you include people who bait people by using words like BLANKET ?
Or how about people who use ASPERGERS SYNDROME as some sort of
put-down ?

Yes Brian...
You once put yourself about as a pilot using the phrase 'when I
learned to fly' only to have your pal STAN blow the whistle
You tried telling people that you used to design navigation systems
but you couldnt recognise an NDB aerial as you drove by it.
You tried claiming some sort of ADVANCED B-LICENCE because you passed
the Morse assessment... A morse assessment that one well know M1
described as "my dog could do it"

of course not... that costs money.

He may make sense now...but wait till you read what else he posts.
You've still not told us what is wrong with that word. Why does it "bait"
you (or anyone else)?
>
> Or how about people who use ASPERGERS SYNDROME as some sort of

You keep mentioning Aspergers. Is there something you'd like to tell us?
WTF has recognition of an aerial got to do with the design of the system
that is going to use it? They are 2 total different entities.
Dave
Plus, NDBs aren't really in the same class as the various systems I was
involved with.

You may well be right, old Bean. Time will tell.
>WTF has recognition of an aerial got to do with the design of the system
>that is going to use it? They are 2 total different entities.
Wake-up at the back !
NDBs are NAVIGATION BEACONS
Brian claimed that he designed NAVIGATIONS SYSTEMS
of which ADF is one.
He also claimed to have 'learned to fly' and for that matter
been involved in Amateur Radio for the last 25 years.
Wake-up at the back
>Plus, NDBs aren't really in the same class as the various systems I was
>involved with.
Oh I see...suddenly theres a difference !
Yet again.... your knowledge springs another hole.
Actually the N in NDB is for Non (as in Non-Directional Beacon). They are,
in the scheme of things, a very crude nav. aid when compared to the sort of
thing I was involved in which, in the main, had some sort of inertial based
unit as their focus.
