The Galashiels Rally and Open Day is on this Sunday 22nd October 2023.
Venue is the Volunteer Hall, St John Street, Galashiels TD1 3JX.

It's a week earlier than usual, so tricky but I'm going to try to make
it along if I can.

There's always plenty of items of interest and people to meet.

Thanks for that, Brian. With the present COVID situation I'm unhappy about the
journey and attending, so I'm afraid I won't be there. Please say hello to
anyone who might know me!

I've found the bring-and-buy successful in the past.

You may have concerns about the weather and flooding up your way but I
am amazed anybody is still concerned about covid.

Risk versus benefit trade-off.

There are new variants of some concern, about which little is being communicated.

I went last year, and was planning on going this year. I
noticed the announcement in Practical Wireless, but this weekend
is not possible and with the shitty WX not sure if I could make
it.

I bought a few odds and sods and possibly this year buy
some parts to quieten some local QRM generators.

The current project is putting together a QO-100
satellite station. Puting a dish on the wall outside my window is
a challenge. Gathering all the RX and TX parts and peripherals is
a pain, no place for one-stop shopping that I can find. Made of
course more tiresome post Brexit.

Not so amazing. The vaccine gives good, but not total, protection and it is
not spreading so fast. But you can still die of it if medically vulnerable or
just unlucky, and it is still around. I had a Covid infection last month, for
instance, and was quite unwell for few days, but luckily got over it in a
fortnight. And I don't go out much, let alone to rallies.

I drove over from Stranaer , rather than coming back to Edinburgh and
getting the train as usual -it turned out only 20 miles longer.

It was well attended with many familiar faces. I spoke Jim GM4DHJ. There
was plenty on sale, but I suspect the junk ^H^H surplus equipment
dealers had to reload their vans as the prices were a bit on the high.
I noticed stuff that had been at previous shows . the QQVO640 anode
lines in particular.

I bought some ferrite rings, a couple of HP terminations and some
connectors. I'd been out 70MHz /P on Thursday and broke the N -type
socket on the gamma match. I got a couple of replacements. I did get on
the air with a bodge.
