Woman hacked to death
By ROBIN PERRIE
A WOMAN was butchered to death in front of her family after her
arranged marriage broke down.
Nusrat Ali, 25, was attacked on her doorstep with a 12in chef's knife
as she left for work at a call centre on Tuesday.
Her mother and five sisters heard her screams and rushed out to see
her being repeatedly stabbed.
Police arrived on the scene and found that her husband Shahzad, 29,
had hanged himself with a rope from his bannister.
He was rushed to hospital unconscious and was last night in critical
condition under police guard at Middlesbrough's James Cook University
Hospital.
Detectives were waiting to interview him as part of their inquiries.
Shahzad worked at a local cash and carry but asked for time off the
day before the murder.
Nusrat's parents came to Britain from Pakistan 30 years ago.
Her dad died and she and her sisters lived with mum Nasreen in a
terraced house in Middlesbrough.
Nusrat had an arranged marriage ceremony with Shahzad — her cousin —
in Pakistan.
She returned to Britain but he stayed until 18 months ago.
They never lived together and he moved into the house next door.
A neighbour said: "They rowed all the time."
