But, to look at some numbers, about 12% of the people in the world are
Indian Hindus, the vast majority of whom have absolutely no sympathy
for any Muslims.

My experience is that the vast majority of Muslims I meet just want to
be left alone to make a life for themselves but there's no denying that

The other problem is that when this tiny minority goes berserk and

groups and then use that to form negative oppinions for the entire

Taking a longer view, fashions change, today (as you correctly state)
Muslims are the usual suspects, but in earlier times it was the
Catholics and at different times it was the Jews.
Some types of religion seem to breed violence, especially when these
religions merge with politics, I suspect the clue is that some types
of religion place value on what they call "faith" (which others would
call "irrational dogma") rather than reason.
Some political idealogies (including national socialism and communism)
form a cult like or quasi religious status and would also fall into
this category.
The worst examples (at present) for the merging of politics with
religion do seem to be the Abrahamic faiths. Most of US involvement
in middle east seem to be driven by a christian ethos etc. I am sure
there will be plenty of examples of this happening outside the
abrahamic faiths as well, but more "mystical" type religions like
Buddhism seem to cause far less problems and may do a lot of good.

There are also stories this morning about the murderous government of
