QUOTE:
Labour has suffered a shock loss in a local council contest after their
candidate was caught up in a bitter row over her social media posts
about trans people.

The party was defeated in a Hackney Council by-election as Laura Pascal
was beaten by Tory rival Ian Sharer.

The 935 votes gained by Ms Pascal was down 46 per cent on the 1,724
votes the previous Labour councillor had received in 2022.

Ms Pascal was only reinstated as a Labour candidate just hours before
polls opened on Thursday after previously being suspended amid claims of
transphobia.

It was claimed her reinstatment [sic - JN] came after being 'forced'
into an apology by party bosses for past social media posts.

In July, Ms Pascal posted on Twitter/X that 'trans women are not
female', adding: 'By definition they are male.'

She also wrote: 'I believe that biological sex is a real thing and
neither law or some kind of new scientific concensus [sic] wld change that.'
ENDQUOTE

The Conservatives got more than 50% of the vote:

Only the first "[sic]" above is mine. The other one is a verbatim quote.
