This is designed to answer questions you may have over how to post to
uk.politics.announce (upa), what happens to the posts you've made and
what benifits there are to you in posting. If you have other questions
then please feel free to mail us at
uk-politics-an...@usenet.org.uk.

* How do I post to upa?
* What happens when I post to upa?

* Who are the moderators?

Why post to upa?
================

upa is a low traffic newsgroup that can be read by people all over the
world who are interested in UK politics and can therefore be a good,
free, way of getting your message seen by many. Being moderated means that
there is a very high signal to noise ratio and no general discussion so it is
likely that your post will be noticed rather than being lost in the mass
of posts that occur in other uk.politics.* groups.

How do I post to upa?
=====================

The preferred way for people to post is for them to post their article
to their news server which will then forward it on to the moderators.
This helps to ensure that the correct headers are in place and that it
keeps up with any change in the submission address.

The second method is to mail it to uk-politic...@usenet.org.uk
which will also mean that it ends up in the correct place but many
mailers make it hard for you to insert Newsgroups: and Followup-To:
headers. See "What happens when I post to upa?" for more details.

The final method is to mail it direct to the submissions address
<uk-politic...@gweep.ca>). Please check the latest version of this
document before doing this as the address can change.

What happens when I post to upa?
================================

Your post will be forwarded to a moderator who will decide whether or
not it meets the criteria set out in the charter.

In particular your post must fulfil all of the following:

* Posting only to upa is allowed, it will be assumed that anyone
wanting to follow up to the post will set whatever group they think
is relevant unless you specify one.
* Cross-posting to upa and one other uk.politics.* group is allowed,
in which case the Followup-To must be set to that group.
Additionally a crosspost to one other group not in the uk.politics.*
hierarchy may be added, this should be a group relevant to the
announcement.
* Be relevant to a UK political party / pressure group / political cause
* Not be crossposted to another moderated group. (This is due to the
technical limitations of Usenet making it hard to coordinate
approvals from multiple moderators.)

If your post is considered On Topic then it will be posted to the group
and should appear on your newsserver soon. If not you should get a
response from the moderator saying why it has been rejected. If your
post is missing a Newsgroups header then it will be assumed that you
want it to go to upa and uk.politics.misc only. If your post it missing
a Followup-To: header then followups will be set to the uk.politics.*
group you include in the crosspost (or to poster if it is to upa only).

Where will discussion go?
=========================

The simple answer to this is wherever the person discussing it wants it
to go. However it is likely to be the newsgroup that you set the
Followup-To: header to so that is a good place to check for a response.

Will my post be altered by the moderators?
==========================================

No. Apart from adding a Newsgroup: / Followup-To: header if they are
missing moderators will not change the post.

Who are the moderators?
=======================

Currently the moderators are Graham Drabble, Chris Croughton and Brian
Edmonds (the latter being the modbot host). They can be reached by
mailing uk-politics-an...@usenet.org.uk
