Hi,

I'd like to know if everything is relative or if there are absolutes.

I tend to think everything is relative, but I've had people disagree.

Everything is absolutely relative.

I don't have an attitude problem.
If you have a problem with my attitude, that's your problem.

This is just like the objectivity subjectivity discussion:

"Everything is subjective."
"Then why is there such a word as objectivity?"

Or the perfection discussion:

"Nothing is perfect."
"So why is there such a word as perfection?"

Perhaps only when something is calculated (and/or interpreted) it can
become absolute via quantization?

Wouldn't we all?

Well, do you believe that 'everything is relative' is an absolute truth? Or
only a relative one? As far as I can see, most people behave as if there are
some things (truths, moral standards) which are absolute, while there are
others which are only relative.

In fact, I think it would be very difficult to behave as if *everything* was
relative, including the fact that everything is relative; and once you allow
that one thing to be absolute, why not other things as well?. You might be
able to get away with a structured model in which there was a lower realm
(in which everything is relative), and something like a meta realm which
says things about the lower realm (and which does contain absolutes). But
that's a bit theoretical for everyday concerns.
