A man wanted to find out what was making him
drunk. He set up a test. One glass had gin and water, another had
vodka and water and the other bourbon and water. He drank them and
decided the consistent variable was water, so he decided it must be
the
water making him drunk.

Very sensible conclusion - as long as he didn't go out and buy a litre
of the stuff for his Friday evening party.

It's a good joke, though, not just about experimental design, but
also, I think, on the virtue of Bayesian thinking.

Not in Russia or Finnland - they'd ask how he managed to get drunk on
just three glasses, and why he mixed water with any of them.
