warm insulin

My chemist thinks he is helping me by delivering my prescription for me.

Yesterday he delivered my repeat prescription including insulin early in the
morning. Unfortunately I was not in so he left it with a neighbour who
kindly passed it over when I returned from work at the end of the day.

However I am worried that it was not refrigerated for a long time! My
neighbour was not to know! It was a very hot day yesterday. I rang the
pharmacist who assures me not to worry that the insulin will be fine. Is he
right do you think? I'm still concerned. Any ideas or comments would be
welcome

my understanding is that the insulin should be injected at room temperature

i keep the box in the fridge, take out a new "pen", keep it out of fridge,
use it till empty(4 days) take out new pen

I keep my supply in the fridge until I use it, I normally ensure that
there's a cartridge in the pen and one in the case with the needles.
The cartridges usually last about 3 days for me, so the spare is at
room temperature for this time and I don't have any trouble.

To add to this, I had to travel by ferry overnight with an eight hour
journey beforehand. Wrapped the insulin (Novomix pens) well and put in
boot. Got to work the next day and did not get a chance to find a fridge
so it ended up being out of a fridge from 0900 one day to 1800 the next
- and it was a fairly warm couple of days.

Mixes OK and my blood sugars show it is working so do not panic!!

I don't think it is as important as we are lead to believe Tom. Cold insulin
hurts like crap on injection mostly so i don't refrigerate mine unless i
have loads (over 4 weeks worth). I wouldn't store it in the sun for any
long period but as long as it is kept within the generous heat range on the
box it is fine.

The pharmacist knows how to look after it..
