Hello everyone, I've been watching this group for ages but now have a
question.
Have any of you female RA sufferers takenHRT and what happens when you stop?
I started 7yrs ago and initially it helped joints but since then I have been
diagnosed with RA. I'm on methotrexate which is working and paracetamol for
pain. Hope someone can reassure me that I won't seize up!
Thanks
Sandy

Hi Sandy
I have OA, so don't know if you want to hear from me. I've been taking Premarin (HRT) for
7 - 10 years now since I had a hysterectomy. I have no side effects that I know of, but I
think a lot depends on your age (I'm 57). I'm just thankful not to have any hot flushes
and all the other things that come after a hysterectomy. I take Co-Proxamol for pain, plus
Diclofenca (NSAID)
Janet

Hiya Sandy, yes I took Duphaston for a few years but it was just before I
was diagnosed with arthur. They helped me personally but can no longer take
them due to high family cancer rates. I had to stop them and since then take
a VitaminE complex and a Cod Liver Oil with Oil of Evening Primrose
supplement.
I still have the odd touch of the *hump* but nowhere near as murderous as I
used to be LOL...Make sure you really look into any possible side effects
won't you? Regards Connie D.

Thankyou Connie I think you have answered my question which perhaps
wasn't quite clear. I have been taking HRT for 7yrs and have been told that
it time to consider stopping. Hopefully by taking Evening primrose & vit E
it may be ok to stop the HRT and not have bad effects.
Thanks, Sandy

When you come off HRT do not just stop taking it all at once.
Do it slowly by cutting the dose down gradually. Then you will not run
the risk of withdrawal symptoms. I did that once the gradual method but
had to go back on it because it cleared up bladder problems.

Just this last 3 weeks a friend of mine stopped taking it and suffered
terrible withdrawal symptoms. She returned to vicious night and day hot
sweats and feels terrible all the time.

So take it slowly.
Shirley
