I was sending an e-mail today and it failed with the following error
message,
An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:
concurrent connection limit in avast! exceeded(pass:0,
processes:thunderbird.exe[46], dialog.exe[4]).

Thunderbird *is* my mail program but I don't use dialog for anything but
usenet posts so if that was sending an e-mail what was it sending and why?

Ideas anyone?

I have done full virus scans and run Malwarebytes and found nothing.

You tried and you failed, so the lesson is, never to try.

A shot in the dark here, but do you use Avast?
If so, I wonder if your Hamster works in a similar way to newsleecher?

Has this any significance?

From your headers, it would appear that you are using the module in
Avast! that checks e-mail and news messages in and out. I can't remember
it's name (I didn't install it), but it's probably something like
MailShield. I'm guessing for some reason that it is overloaded - 46
instances of something are running simultaneously.

If you are, I don't know what is wrong, but as that module is completely
unnecessary, turning it off may get rid of the error. Either way round,
don't turn it back on, it isn't needed at all.

Thanks Bri studied with interest, I don't think the problem lies with
hamster but I could be wrong.
