I find that traditional men's raincoats are becoming increasingly difficult
to find in shops. You can get Shorties but ones that go below the knees seem
only to come in Winter weight. I looked around all last Spring and Summer
without finding one. In desperation I looked for the makers name in my very
old one and Googled it. It only came up with one stockist Slaters Menswear
where I had bought my last one. Since then Slaters have expanded nationally
and now do Mail Order, so new coat on its way.
Next problem does anyone know a stockist of M.E.N.S. trousers made in
Germany by Heinecke & Klaproth. I used to get them from Aitken & Niven in
Edinburgh before they decided to concentrate on School uniforms and closed
down their menswear shop. They are expensive to buy but never wear out. The
pair I am wearing at the moment are about eight years old and even the
pockets are as good as new. I found the Heinecke web site but although it
has an English section it does not accept U.K. post codes or phone numbers
for enquiries.

Do tell if you can sort that out!
The last mail order trousers I got must have been made in the far east
for gents with dainty hands. I can just about slide an open hand in to a
pocket but trying to extract loose change in a clenched hand is well
nigh impossible and the 'tight fisted Scot' jibes are wearing a bit
thin! (True but thin.) :-))

M.E.N.S. have quite deep pockets and an internal back pocket as well as two
ordinary back pockets.
I spent an hour in M&S one day trying to find a pair of trousers with a 31"
leg. Every pair was at most a 30" leg. But all the 33s were 33s.

Strange,
Just last week I bought a pair of jeans from M&S and have the exact same
problem in fact my wallet barely fits into the pocket.

Frogman,
If you think you're not confused, you're just not thinking too clearly.

Similar problem here, particularly in regards to the depth rather than
the width.Have tried quite a few places and the best I 've come up with
up to now for everyday use are from ASDA.

I have a Brook Taverner 'Grasmere' Trench Coat.
That sounds like what you need. It has a removable lining so can be used
Summer or Winter.
I got mine in a local shop, now closed, but they are available on-line
now:- <http://www.brooktaverner.co.uk/bt/product/195>
They also do trousers but I've not tried them, yet.

I have one with a removable lining for winter use (it was cold enough to
wear it yesterday) but it is still quite a heavy material for Summer. The
M&S web site has one that might have 'suited' but t was not in either of the
M&S stores I tried. I just want a button up coat rather that a belted one
with Gun Flaps, Epaulettes
and a Storm Cape.

Very few Gents outfitters left that cater for Old Fogies like me. Just
don't get me started on designer spectacles and present day shoes. I bought
a pair of expensive Clarks shoes with a thick crepe sole and heel. The heel
continued up the back of the shoe. Every time I walked on a wet surface they
had no grip and an aquaplaning effect. I kept them for dry days and took
them to Portugal on holiday. All the Portuguese marble floors turned into
skating rinks when wearing them.

Yes it looks good quality but so many things you really need to try on.
I have been buying trousers with a 38" waist for years. When I went for a
health check last year the nurse said that my waist measurement had gone
into the RED area on her tape measure and was 41 1/2" and that I should
really try to get down to 38" How come my trousers fit I asked her:-)

They may have slunk below my waist:-) She measured round from my navel and
my trousers are only a fraction below there.

Wow! and four interior pockets. The one that is winging its way to me does
not have interior pockets.
