There are not too many small livestock markets left now. Years ago
every town had one.

I've tried to capture the feel of the market and the character of
it's users.

These are low res images but I hope they give some insight into the
market. I'm planning to visit Melton Mowbray livestock market next
week. Cattle markets make a fascinating day out as well as fodder for
my camera.

I really enjoyed those. I've been to a few livestock markets with my
brother-in-law, who has a farm in Wales. I hope your camera finger
action didn't attract the auctioneer cos I don't know where you're
going to put all those cows and chickens.

ps. I'd have wanted to buy the donkey too :-)

My wife had a phone call this morning, something about would there be
anyone in tomorrow to sign for six heifers, a goat and two rusty
chicken feeders. Must be some sort of mistake, I don't think it's
anything to do with me.

Much giggling here. Watch out for the goat, they'll eat the shirt off
your back if they get a chance ;-)

Great. Brought back memories of going to the market with Dad. The farmer
allowed him to take me in the horse and cart - providing her doesn't get in
the way. I loved all the animals and the small creatures like chicken
ducks and rabbits.

Whoops! lokks like I combined my comments with another thread.

Some lovely character shots Graham. The cloth cap still prevails! I
love these markets. It's amazing what people will buy and sell.

Some markets are disappearing though including Bury St. Edmunds (now a
shopping precinct).

Colchester market has moved. They actually knocked the Market Tavern
down and realised it was a listed building afterwards.
