Strange Text message !!!!

I received a text message from 07378 905633 earlier today it went like
this:

Your home is ready for smart meters and your upgrade is booked for
29/09/2021.
Your engineer will arrive will arrive between 8:00AM - 12:00 at 'my
postcode, and you'll receive further details by post/email in the next
few days. If you would like to change your appointment, please reply
'RESCHEDULE'

They then add a britishgas link for more details and a very lengthy url
with '2.amazonaws.com' and loads of numbers and letters in it to access
a calendar reminder.

Now I don't want a smart meter and have always ignored all offers of
having one over several years with British gas. I have never requested a
visit to fit one. Is this some sort of scam, or is it Britishgases'
way of bullying me into having one fitted. I suppose that now I'm over
80 years young and feeling very past it and decrepit they'll be
expecting me to just let them come in and fit one.

It looks like a scam, ignore it and if on the offchance someone does turn
up send them away as you haven't booked them, having a smart meter is YOUR
choice, no-one can force you under the current rules.

Might 'phone Britishgas later just to check and give them a piece of my
mind, not that I have much left these days. ;)

Thanks Ray, I had considered that it was, but I couldn't see how they
could make anything from it, as they don't actually ask you to do
anything like give any data or click on any links.

It wasn't a scam, as British Gas have e-mailed me today to confirm the
visit. So I'll definitely be on the 'phone to them in the morning to
cancel the visit. I wonder what their next ploy will be?

I received the exact same message tonigt at 2am, it's reported as a scam in other websites

original message.

I just had a smiliar message from this number. Found this group when I was looking for its origin. I am glad I did not reply, but it got me worried first.

It was just reported these days on tellows:
