I mentioned I was sufferring rather a too regular thirst to the nurse,
that I had been drinking more than the usual amount of of fresh orange
and I had recently swapped to Robinsons no added sugar orange to
dilute. Nurse suggested the Robinsons was much better, as much less
sugar content. I don't like just water.

I think the Robinsons left me with a constant strange taste in the
mouth, but recently they had no stock in Lidl, so I bought Kia Ora no
sugar added. I found it much nicer with no strange after taste, but is
it as equally acceptable as Robinsons? I have very slight T2 diabetes.

If you want a really, really, nice orange squash see if you can find
Lanitis Orange Squash, tastes heavenly - you'd need to check if it's OK
for you.

Thanks, but that has a similar amount of sugar to the fresh orange it
was suggested I avoid, at least for regular thirst quenching.

Somewhere on the label of each bottle will be a breakdown of the
"nutritional value", and that should include sugars.

If you know Robinsons is OK and Kia Ora is very similar then it will be
a suitable substitute.

While you are in the shops, have a look at the numbers on the Own Brand
products available, to see if they are also within your acceptance
level. Some Own Brands are a reasonable flavour and they tend to be cheaper.

Yep, I just wondered why the Kia Ora tasted so much better - I compared
the sugar level and they seemed not much different.

I used to be a regualar at Aldi, they had their own acceptable own
brand, but now we have a local Lidl - they don't seem to have an own
brand, just the Robinsons.

I, too, am just T2 diabetic. I looked at a bottle of Roses' Lime Cordial
and was surprised how much added sugar it had - so I didn't buy any.

There is a comparison of some squashes here. The review refers to an
aftertaste from Robinson's. And there is mention of an own brand from Lidl.

In the same way that there are brands of apple that taste like apples
but there are subtle differences in the taste, there are several types
of orange and although they taste fairly similar, they are not all the
same. Perhaps Kia Ora uses the type that suites your palate better.

Kia Ora is a name from my past. I remember back to when Dad owned a
greengrocer's shop back in the 1950s. He used to sell, so I used to
drink, quite a lot of 'Kia Ora' orange. Nowadays I drink a couple of
litres of Tropicano Orange a week which I get with my Morrison's
Saturday delivery.

I've not come across that in our local Lidl, I will look closer next
time.

Possibly something to do with artificial sweetener or preservative.

I like Sainsbury's own brand Orange or Orange with Mango. I swap between
those two and usually dilute them a lot which reduces the sugar content
but still more interesting than just water.

I cannpt cope with just water, it's far too wet :-)

As I said the Robinsons left me with a near permanent not very nice
taste in the mouth. I have kept to the Kia Ora for a week and the taste
is back to normal. I was getting usually getting through around a litre
per day of the diluted Robinsons.

Is that litre before or after dilution?

After dilution. It's around 1:6 dilution.
