well after being at all the whitby weekends was it me or was this one
lacking something?
Rosetta were very lack luster mmmmm - perhaps the fight before they went on
had something to do with that though
still overall it was good - not the best but still good
Anyone know the release date for emma conquests new album?
Yes, I had the same impression. I've only been twice before, to both parts
in 1997, but this time I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I can't
quite put my finger on it, it's not like I didn't have a good time but
something was definitely missing. I guess some of it has to do with the
fact that apart from Faithful Dawn I didn't think much of any of the other
bands - although Funhouse were a good laugh.
>Rosetta were very lack luster mmmmm - perhaps the fight before they went on

Well they don't seem to be very happy bunnies and I can't blame them. I
don't really like their music much so I can't really comment on their show
etc. - but I didn't realise there had been a fight anywhere! Maybe I was
more drunk than I thought! ;-)

Yeah...and I got to have my picture taken with Lara Croft, can't complain

I'm wondering if it wasn't something to do with the ticket
limits...the place seemed to lack that *perk* that comes from big
crowds and manic stuff. Hard to put a finger on it.
Definitely not as fizzy as it oughtta have been. Not nearly.
FTM Whitters is much more than the bands for me, so I wouldn't put it
down to that.

Pat not Goth Pat
There were a couple of things that kind of put a downer on the weekend. The
mix up of when the events finished and that they finished very early kind of
made the later part of the nights quite disjointed. Not knowing what time to
guzzle down the booze didn’t help either.
The Spa was too well lit for my liking. It would have been nice for the lights
to be muted slightly so it wasn’t like standing in Victoria station or
something.
Other than that the weekend was cool and I’ll be back next Halloween.

I've often associated the Monty Python sketch (the plague I think)
where he says bring out your dead...
I have visions of Goths at Whitby being thrown out the pubs
and running back in again.

MORTICIAN: What?
TRENDY: Nothing -- here's your nine pence.
DEAD GOTH: I'm not dead! I'm just mopey.
MORTICIAN: Here -- he says he's not dead!
TRENDY: Yes, he is.
DEAD GOTH: I'm not!
MORTICIAN: He isn't.
TRENDY: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
DEAD GOTH: I'm getting better! Look, I can do the 3-step.
TRENDY: No, you're not -- you'll be stone dead in a moment.
MORTICIAN: Oh, I can't take him like that -- it's against regulations.
DEAD GOTH: I don't want to go in the cart! I wanna go back in the Elsinore
TRENDY: Oh, don't be such a baby. MORTICIAN: I can't take him...
DEAD GOTH: I feel fine! Have Sunshine Blind played yet?
TRENDY: Oh, do us a favor...
MORTICIAN: I can't.

MORTICIAN: Naaah, I got to go on to the Spa, they've lost 9 today already
TRENDY: Well, when is your next round?
MORTICIAN: April
DEAD GOTH: I think I'll go for a walk up to the graveyard.
TRENDY: You're not fooling anyone y'know. Look, isn't there something you can

DEAD GOTH: I feel perky... I feel perky. [whop]
TRENDY: Ah, thanks very much. MORTICIAN: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
TRENDY: Right. [clop clop] MORTICIAN: Who's that then?
TRENDY: I don't know.

TRENDY: Why?

And apparently indestructible. After lobbing them 30' down the car park
they refused to burst. Hefty kicking had no effect, nor did a quick
game of boule. After a quick impression of the Dam-busters Ed rolled
one down the steps towards the Spa. We then had a horrible vision of
some poor pissed goth staggering up the steps in platforms and being
knocked for six by a strange minature Rover (the threatening bubble in
The Prisoner). They were last seen heading for the shoreline and are
now probably causing a danger to shipping in the north east, or being
hunted by whalers.

Just wanted to say that I had a wonderful wonderful weekend - despite
the very rapid death of my purple feather boa - it was by far the best
out of the 5 Whitbys I've been to (and I really enjoyed the others).
Don't know if that's 'cause of the event itself or just my mood and the
enormous number of people I seemed to know and general really lovely
atmosphere.
I think enjoyment of things like Whitby for me are more dependent on
who's there and my being up for it or not more than whether particular
bands are good or not.

We have a theory on this one....
Have you noticed, RS always seem to play their toons much slooowwwweeerrrr
live? Kind of detracts from things don't y'recon? Well, we think that
they have a *very* clever producer. Y'see they *always* play at this
speed! When production is complete, he just speeds things up a little!
But, RS would be *very* upset by someone playing with their tunes, so he
gives them copies of the CD, but at the *original* speed! Thus, everyone
is happy. But, 'cos they don't know about his shenanigans, when it comes
to a gig, they don't know that everyone prefers the tunes at 'full speed'!
Well, we like the theory........

I'm happy to hear you say that, but I'm sorry to say only because it means
that my act of deception was pretty effective.
It was actually just a regular black blazer I bought at a second hand shop and
had a tailor rather haphazardly sew the trim on using a ribbon-like material.
I doubt you will find (with any reasonable effort) such a jacket with a
professionally done trim.
Be seeing you.

I didn't actually see the jacket in question [though christ knows how
not -- can't believe I missed someone dressed as No 6] but if what you
*were* wearing was a Prisoner jacket, then yes, you can indeed get them,
from the tourist bit of portmerrion, where said series was filmed.

I'm sure several ppl on upg have actually been there, so they could tell
you for sure. which is why I retitled this thread. don't mention it :)

Where no doubt they'll cost a quite hideous amount. Still, I've been
meaning to get the tent out and visit for a couple of years; hide bits
of paper in the stone ship, drag a weather balloon about the beach and
so forth. I hear that there's a pretty good camp site nearby.
Anybody heard any more news about the plans to make a film? From the
bits I last heard it sounded like they might just as well give Jim Carey
the lead role...

You didn't watch the fancy dress contest even? I was contestant number 6!
>> *were* wearing was a Prisoner jacket, then yes, you can indeed get them,

The tourist bit of Portmeirion?
Here's what I know. Being from Canada, I wanted to see Portmeirion while I
was in England. So on Monday after Whitby, I drove there. Portmeirion is the
village (resort) and nothing more. The closest town is Porthmadog, maybe
there is something there?
Anyway, inside of the Portmeirion the village, the door that was used as
number 6's in the series now leads to the "Number 6" shop. They have prisoner
memorabilia, post cards, stickers, the video series, etc. Certainly nothing
as elaborate as the jacket. No other shop in the village has anything related
to the prisoner.
DK.
> You didn't watch the fancy dress contest even? I was contestant number 6!
ah. I was, errr, distracted. yes, that's it. distracted.
