I went to see "The Damned" last week and I saw Captain sensible
playing with them + patricia Morrisson but I'm not sure if it was her or
a copy of her.
Do you know anything about her, what she's up to these days?.
Could anyone enlighten her and me for that matter.
Thanks Whisky dave

yes, she's playing with the Damned ?! Thought that would have been obvious from

Considering the recent controversy about sheep cloning in Australia, I
would think that you have actually been dealing with a cloned Patricia[1].
In fact The Cure are currently undergoing the same process for future Oz
appearances due to Mad Bob's fear of flying. Speaking of Bob, this may
explain why our UPG Bob has been spotted nearly everywhere.
Ok, I shall now continue with my cooking experiment containing fermented
mushroom substances I bought in Soho today.

she has been known to sound like one.

Can't remember why I know this, but AFAIK it is the same Patricia
Morrisson. Came from punk, going back to punk? (with a little
gothy pit-stop in the middle)

Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was slightly grey,
It didn't have a father, just some borrowed DNA.
It sort of had a mother, though the ovum was on loan,
It's not so much a lambkin, as a little lamby clone.
And soon it had a fellow clone, and soon it had some more,
They followed her to school one day, all cramming through the door.
It made the children laugh and sing, and thrilled them to the soul,
But there were just too many clones, for Mary to control.
No one else could herd the sheep, their imprints didn't vary,
The cloners sought to fix it up, by simply cloning Mary.
So clone they did, and Newsweek said it was extraordinary,
But now they don't know what to do, with Mary, Mary, Mary...

She's an author of mediocre fantasy novels. It seems unlikely that she'd
be on stage with The Damned. I didn't realize they were still together.

Indeed. It's the Damned's fault that I'm here. Fell in love with That Song,
bought "Eternally Damned", noticed that their later stuff was described as
"goth" and made the connection between this "goth" and that really cool (!?)
album I'd just got by that Siouxsie person... (it was "The Rapture" btw).

Ditto. In my case, it was "Sanctum Sanctorum" and the album was

Even more unlikely since it's a different Patricia Morrison. This is the
one who is now shacked up with Dave Vanian.
Hmm. That means Laurie Vanian is single ...

I think she was seeing someone I know from Portsmouth (a would-be rock
star type who now lives in London)- he only realised she was Dave's ex-

Bizarrely enough, she turned up at my club.

2. She's still seeing him

Really cool? The Rapture? I thought it was rather disappointing although I
did like "The Double Life". I much preferred "Peepshow" but I can no longer
stand the title track. I'm in two minds about buying any more Siouxsie and
the Banshees.
As for the Damned. Who are they? Never heard of them.

OK. A brief history of the Damned, EandOE. (This is coming from memory).
1976 A grave digger, 2 toilet cleaners and a musician (Dave Vanian,
Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Brian James as they became known)
formed the Damned, released the single 'New Rose' on Stiff records,
shortly followed by 'Damned Damned Damned'; generally regarded as being
the first 'punk' album.
From there on in it's gone up hill and down dale musically, but band
members have included (in the last 20 years and in no particular order)
Lu Edmonds, Algy Ward, John Moss, Lemmy, Glen Matlock, Paul Gray, Henry
Badowski, Roman Jugg, Bryn Merrick, Kris Dollymore, Moose, James Taylor,
Alan Lee Shaw, Patricia Morrison and, undoubtedly, others.
Album list goes (chronologically) something like :
Damned Damned Damned
Music for Pleasure
Machine Gun Ettiqutte (sp?)
The Black Album <- It's about this time people think they're goth.
Strawberries <- It's about this time people think they're not.
Phantasmagoria <- It's about this time people think they are again.
Anything
I'm Alright Jack and the Beanstalk.
Plus more live albums and compilations than you can shake a stick at.
There have been, as you can imagine from the former members list, a
large number of 'offshoot' bands.
One of the most notable of these is Dave Vanian's Phantom Chords.
If you ever get the chance to see the Damned, do so.
Of the albums, DDD, TBA, and Phantasmagoria are essential listening.
'The Light at the End of the Tunnel' compilation is a good place to
start, and IIRC, contains a much better potted history than this one.
Hope all this is of some interest,

Personally, I don't think that Phantasmagoria is such a great album
either; it's not bad, but (for me) it's not their best.
It's rather like trying to recommend an album by the Beatles or Frank
Zappa. Some you like, some you hate.
A lot of people I know really like Phantasmagoria, but then again a lot
of people like Nick Caves 'Boatmans Call'. I think it's a pile of shite.
There are only so many times you can mention the words 'raven', 'black'
and 'hair' on an album without it getting repetitive.
On the other hand it could have been worse; he could be knocking off
Sinead o' Conner :)
