Whilst driving my Motability car I had a puncture; I took the car to a
Kwikfit centre for the puncture to be repaired.
I was told that because the nail was within half inch of the tyre wall
it was a un-repairable puncture and the tyre would have to replaced at
a cost to ME of £73. I rang Motability and they confirmed this.
The car is nearly three years old, I was under the impression that
during the lease period you are entitled to "one" set of tyres if
required.
Anyone had similar problems, are Motobility correct in their ruling ??
,
Any advice/ information or similar experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks

The one set of tyres is for 'worn' tyres, punctures you pay for, this should
have been explained to you by your advisor, and it is most definatly in the
handbook that you should have received.

It is true that you are only allowed a free tyre of it is worn out
through fair wear and tear. If it is damanged, then you should have
to pay. However. when you go to quickfit, make it clear to them that
you will only get the tyre from them if they replace it free because
it is worn out, If they insist on charging, simply say that you will
buy a replacement, but not from them. Works like magic ! They want
the profit from the tyre, they will 'scratch your back' to get it. Not
very ethical, perhaps - but what is these days ?

Next time Bob fit either a remould, or as was the case when it happened in
my Ford Escort Kwikfit provided me with a brand new tire for £22.99p. In the
past my own Ford Dealership have never charged me for fixing a puncture,
however, it's the law that states a tyre is un-repairable if it's within 1
inch of the tyre wall.

>I recently had a puncture that was unrepairable. I use a "back street"
tyre man. He said the tyre could go away and be repaired by a specialist
firm at a cost of £15. If your tyres have plenty of wear in them check this
out. The likes of quickfit etc. wont tell you as they want to flog a new
tyre, but if you shop around and insist, all punctures (as opposed to tears
splits or damage) can be repaired. As I am only having the car for another
two months I took the easier option, and for a fiver he fitted a tube into
the tyre, and it is now the spare.

I thought it was an offence, and certainly dangerous, to fit a tube into
a tubeless tyre. Mind you, I could have got the wrong end of the stick
somewhere along the line.

You are entitled to a free set of tyres if you take your car back to the
garage you least it from.
