Hi folks,

I'm happy to make a BSL finger spelling font - if someone can design
them!!!

Of course, there's the RNID chart, if someone there would give copyright
clearance.

What... you mean copyright clearance - why don't all the deafie use sign
language as a standard.... no need for copyright!!!

Then, why not use a scanner then export to any graphics packages then
export again to a font designer software... Perhaps it could be anywhere
in shareware - it could be there??!!

That's exactly how I make fonts - except there's no shareware font
designer, but I bought Fontographer for other work some time ago -
professional kit, not cheap. I believe CorelDraw! has some rudimentary
font tools included.

Don't think scanning and exporting gets around copyright though.

I think it all bollocks!! that me!!!

It the some way, to most university students / researcher or whatever
then they can alter in a shading ways.... Be cool with your shades!!

Well, in a way through you can scan then modify / alter some typo then
the copyright - paaaaaahhh - it a small way but everyone in different
organisation have them!! If it is a big things or something unique then
it could be somethings for the copyright...

Pyke

P.S. you may recall me as few years (7 - I think!!) ago I was doing
something for the noise recognition systems using neural network and
mathematically problems on multi-processing systems methodology....

Technically, Paul, he's right, you'd need copyright clearance to publish
the RNID chart itself, but to incorporate the same signs into a font
should be OK. I certainly cannot see any deaf organisation kicking up a
fuss as a BSL fingerspelling font has to be A Good Thing as far as the
deaf are concerned.

I have the signs as a GIF if someone wants me to either send it via
private mail or post it here (although I am reluctant to post it here
because it would fill /everyone's/ mailbox). The file is 17.2 KB in size.

Cheers,
JOhn Stuart (a.k.a. Bowtie)
