Former Irish jump jockey Anthony Powell died in a car crash on the
Curragh, in early February, 2003.

Powell, 43, won the Irish Grand National on Maid Of Money in 1989 and
captured the Ladbroke Hurdle twice on Hansel Prince (1985) for his
uncle Tony Redmond and Dance Beat (1996). Dance Beat, trained by
Jessica Harrington, was one of Powell's last big-race successes before
he retired from the saddle.

He stayed in racing, running a livery yard at his home in Kilcullen.
Powell also did some freelance work for Irish television station RTE
at the big Irish jump meetings.

I loved his novels, even though they were all talk and nothing much ever
happened.
