She was born 20 February, 1938, a daughter of Major-General Francis
Neville Mitchell, CB, CBE, DSO, of Alford House, Somerset [of a landed
family], by his wife, the former Ann Christian Livingstone-Learmonth,
[of Livingstone-Learmonth, formerly of Parkhall, LG, &c.]
Mona Mitchell was educated at North Foreland Lodge.
Career: Secretary to Fulke Walwyn, the racehorse trainer, 1958-62;
Secretary to the fashion designer Sir Hardy Amies, KCVO, 1963-68;
Secretary to HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy, 1968-74,
Private Secretary to Princess Alexandra, 1974-1991; Extra
Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Alexandra, 1968-2002.
Mona Mitchell was appointed LVO in 1976, CVO in 1985, and DCVO in
1992.
Dame Mona, of Charlton Horethorne, Sherborne, Dorset, never married.

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Dame Mona Mitchell, Extra
Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Alexandra, was held, 16 January, 2003, at
the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Charlton Horethorne, Somerset. The
Rev Peter Hallett officiated and the Very Rev Patrick Mitchell, KCVO,
Dean of Windsor 1989-98, cousin, preached the sermon.
Mr Simon Vale and Captain William Robinson, nephews, read the lessons
and Mr Richard Jacob, nephew, read a family prayer.
Mr Christopher Young read a poem written by his wife, Mrs Charlotte
Young, niece, Miss Sarah Weston, niece, read *You can shed tears that
she is gone* and Miss Rosemary Jacob, niece, read Footprints.
Mrs Ian Weston, sister, paid tribute. Among others present were:
